ASEAN tourism ministers recognise successful MICE venues

Tourism Ministers from 10 ASEAN countries recently presented the certificate of ASEAN MICE Venue Standards (AMVS) to successful MICE venues from member countries namely Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore and Vietnam during the 37th ASEAN Tourism Forum (ATF2018) held during January 22-26, 2018, in Chiang Mai. Supawan Teerarat, Senior Vice President, Strategic Business Development and Innovation, TCEB, said, “The AMVS programme has been developed as a result of the nationwide success of the Thailand MICE Venue Standard (TMVS) which initiated by TCEB.  TCEB has defined a strategic roadmap throughout the development course and has been working closely with the nine member countries, namely Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore and Vietnam. TCEB had organised five meetings to provide details and clarify the criteria of the AMVS standards for the member countries. At present, the AMVS cover three categories, namely (1) Meeting/Conference Venue or Room (2) Exhibition Venue, and (3) Event Venue. The standards include three key criteria namely 1. Physical Setting (32 indicators) 2. Technology (10 indicators) and 3. Service (13 indicators). TCEB unveils ‘Thailand Connect’ campaign for 2018

Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) unveiled the marketing communication campaign for the year 2018 entitled ‘THAILAND CONNECT Your Vibrant Journey to Business Success, decoded with chapters of possibilities’. The campaign is aimed at further enhancing a position of Thailand as leading bleisure destination in the region. The bureau expects that, by the end of next year, the country will welcome 1,192,000 international MICE visitors which generate revenue of 112 billion baht. Supawan Teerarat, Vice President of TCEB’s Strategic and Business Development, said, “TCEB has been introducing key fundamental pillars of MICE industry which include a diversity of destination, business opportunities, and people of Thailand. These strengths are well positioning Thailand as a leading destination for bleisure activities in the region.” TCEB’s campaign was launched at the 25th Incentive Travel & Convention, Meetings Asia (IT&CMA), and the 20th Corporate Travel World Asia-Pacific (CTW Asia-Pacific). The IT&CM Asia is recognised as the leading international MICE event centered in Asia-Pacific. “The marketing campaign is aimed at raising the industry profile and visits. International events which will be held in Thailand in the coming years include: the 2018 MDRT Experience and Global Conference during 1-8 February; Bangkok Entertainment Fest during March-June; Sport Accord Convention 2018 during 15-20 April; ASEAN Sustainable Energy Week 2018  during 6-9 June; ProPak Asia 2018 during 13-16 June;  the 45th International Council for Traditional Music (ICTM 2019) during 7-14 July; the 31st Congress of Asia-Pacific Association of Cataract & Refractive Surgeon (APACRS 2018) during 19-21 July; Beyond Beauty Asean Bangkok 2018 during 20-22 September; and Metalex 2018 during 21-24 November,” Teerarat concluded.

Thailand to earn 18,000 million baht through exhibition industry this fiscal: TCEB

According to TCEB’s Director of Exhibitions and Events, Jaruwan Suwannasat, the overview of exhibitions industry drew 180,480 international exhibition delegates and earned a total of 15,686 million baht for the country in the fiscal year 2016. The performance is expected to grow this year to around 208,000 international exhibition delegates, generating revenue for the country of around 18,000 million baht. This was revealed in the Thailand International Exhibitions & Events Forum or TIEEF 2017. Supawan Teerarat, Vice President, Strategic and Business Development of TCEB stated that based on results of an economic impact study in 2015, the Thai MICE industry helped circulate total expenditure in the country’s economic system of 220 billion baht, In the exhibition sector specifically, generated more than 53,000 million baht and more than 43,000 jobs were created. “When the government announced a policy to embrace Thailand 4.0 the MICE industry has responded positively driven by innovation. TCEB has prepared an integrated plan for MICE that will stimulate the economy,” said Teerarat.
