Turkish Airlines introduces new amenities for business-class passengers

Turkish Airlines has implemented two new projects enabling business class passengers to choose their meals before the flight via “Meal selection before flight” service. With this service, applicable to the several intercontinental destinations departing from Istanbul, business-class passengers can view the meal details and visuals of the main dishes and make their choices on the web page or mobile application. They can make their choices within the period starting from 1 week before their flight date until the last 48 hours. Turkish Airlines passengers who fly from Istanbul to Atlanta, Bangkok, Beijing, Bogotá, Boston, Cape Town, Chicago, Guangzhou, Hanoi, Havana, Ho Chi Minh City, Hong Kong, Houston, Jakarta, Johannesburg, Kuala Lumpur, Los Angeles, Manila,  Miami, Montreal, New York, Phuket, Port Louis, San Francisco, Sao Paulo, Seoul, Shanghai, Singapore, Taipei, Tokyo, Toronto, Washington DC, Caracas, Panama City, Madagascar, Durban, Maputo, and Buenos Aires can take advantage of this service. Besides, the airlines’ ‘Dine on demand service’ will be available in all intercontinental night flights departing from and landing on Istanbul.

Cathay enhances its Marco Polo Club offerings for members

Cathay Pacific has improved its offerings for its loyalty programme, the Marco Polo Club. Effective December 8, 2017, all Marco Polo Club members will earn more points on Cathay Pacific and Cathay Dragon flights across all distance zones in selected fare classes. In addition, the annual requirement for Green members will be reduced from 100 to 20 club points. Members travelling short or ultra-short haul to popular destinations such as Taipei, Shanghai, Japan and India with Cathay Pacific and Cathay Dragon will earn an additional 5 to 10 club points per sector across most fare classes in all cabins. While flights to Europe and the Americas will carry an additional 10 to 15 more club points in Economy and Premium Economy. In addition, 5 to 20 extra club points will be awarded to some discounted and promotional fares on almost all routes. Also, the threshold to maintain Green membership will be reduced, allowing members to enjoy exclusive club benefits such as priority check-in and boarding, lounge access redemption amongst other privileges. Cathay Pacific Head of Customer Loyalty, Elaine Lee, said, “We continue to improve our offerings to ensure the Marco Polo Club evolves to meet our members’ travel needs. The new club points will better reward our members so that their travel experience is enhanced and their loyalty recognised.” Cathay Pacific Regional Sales & Marketing Manager – South Asia, Rajesh Menon, said, “We have made these changes based on recent feedback and to ensure that the club evolves in a way that reflects our members’ travel needs in a changing environment, particularly for regional travel within Asia which members are flying more frequently.”

Asia-Pacific sees growth in the meetings and events space: CWT

A report on future trends in the meetings and events space by the CWT Meetings & Events (CWT M&E), a division of global travel management company Carlson Wagonlit Travel, revealed that the overall cost per attendee per day for meetings and events around the globe increased in 2017 and is expected to continue rising next year. Titled as 2018 Meetings and Events Future Trend, the report also looks into regional differences and cost projections, as well as the latest industry trends and top destinations. According to the report, the cost per attendee per day for meetings and events in Asia Pacific has increased by 5 per cent in 2017, the greatest for any region globally. It stated that the prices are not changing much in Asia Pacific, for either hotels or air fares, with a surge of 3.5 per cent and 2.8 per cent respectively. The top 10 destinations for meetings & events in Asia Pacific in 2017 as in the report are as follows: 1. Singapore 2. Sydney, Australia 3. Bangkok, Thailand 4. Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia 5. Hong Kong 6. Etihad to introduce A380 on Paris route

Etihad Airways will introduce its A380 on the Abu Dhabi-Paris route this summer as part of seasonal adjustments to the airline’s fleet deployment plan. Etihad Airways’ approximate one-way fare, including taxes and surcharges, in The Residence from Paris to Abu Dhabi is US$ 10,750; and Paris to Sydney or Melbourne is US$ 16,800. Featuring the carrier’s revolutionary, The Residence – the world’s first three-room suite on a commercial airliner – the aircraft will operate on one of its twice-daily services to the French capital between July 1 and October 28. With the aircraft upgrade from a 328-seat Boeing 777, Etihad Airways is able to offer an all-A380 daily service from Paris to both Melbourne and Sydney via the airline’s Abu Dhabi hub. It will also support the strong connecting traffic to and from many cities across Asia and Australia including Brisbane, Perth, Bangkok, Chengdu, Ho Chi Minh City, Hong Kong, Jakarta, Manila, Shanghai, Seychelles, Chennai, Delhi and Mumbai, together with destinations across the GCC such as Bahrain, Doha, Jeddah and Muscat. Peter Baumgartner, Etihad Airways Chief Executive Officer, said: “Paris is one of our busiest and best performing European routes, so the deployment of this upgraded service will benefit travellers to and from Abu Dhabi, and our popular connecting cities across Asia and Australia.”

Africa’s largest airline group, Ethiopian Airlines, shall resume services to Conakry on February 1, 2017. Conakry is the capital of The Republic of Guinea and a port city on the Atlantic Ocean serving as the country’s economic, financial and cultural centre. Guinea is a major producer of bauxite and has rich deposits of diamonds and gold. Group CEO of Ethiopian Airlines, Tewolde GebreMariam said, “Charting a route that joins Africa, East to West and North to South, Ethiopian is greatly contributing to the economic, tourism, and trade development of the African continent.
