Incredible India’s new website adds convenience for travellers

Alphons Kannanthanam, Minister of State (I/C) for Tourism, Government of India, launched the new Incredible India website in New Delhi. The website showcases India as a holistic destination, revolving around major experiences such as spirituality, heritage, adventure, culture, yoga, wellness and more. The website follows the trends and technologies of international standards with an aim to project India as a must-visit destination among its overseas travellers. The Ministry will now be able to engage effectively with visitors across web and social channels and measure engagement to deliver real time personalised experiences for each visitor based on their interest and travel persona. It has partnered with Google Arts & Culture in bringing online a series of compelling visuals that will give the user an immersive experience of India’s spectacular heritage, festivity, spirituality, museums and adventure. Going forward, the website will be available in Hindi and leading international languages. Speaking at the event, Rashmi Verma, Secretary Tourism, said that the new website will suggest to a visitor the options and there is no need of any queries. She also added that the website will provide information all over the world about exotic destinations of the country. India & Cambodia consider direct air link between Phnom Penh and New Delhi

India and Cambodia have agreed to strengthen tourism cooperation, particularly with regards to a direct air link between Phnom Penh and New Delhi. This decision was taken after a joint committee meeting between officials from Cambodia and India, in Siem Reap, to discuss cooperation in the tourism industry as part of a high-level dialogue mechanism. Phnom Penh recently hosted the ‘Incredible India Road Show’, which aimed to promote India as a destination for Cambodian tourists, as well as to create new partnerships between Indian and local companies in the tourism industry. Rashmi Verma, Secretary – Tourism, Government of India, said the committee is now working on a strategy to further the collaboration between the countries in tourism. “Stronger cooperation in tourism will be beneficial for both countries in terms of economic growth and job creation,” she said. The flow of tourists between Cambodia and India has increased remarkably in the last few years, said Thong Khon, Cambodian Minister of Tourism. He said that many Cambodians travel to India to visit religious landmarks, while Indians like to visit the Kingdom to experience local weddings or as part of pilgrimages. “In many ways, both countries have a similar appeal for tourists, and both have huge potential for tourism. This is why we need to boost cooperation with India in the sector,” Khon said.

Jharkhand Travel Mart 2018 to be in Ranchi on March 23

Jharkhand Tourism has announced the inaugural edition of ‘Jharkhand Travel Mart to be held in Ranchi from March 23-25, 2018. Dr. Manish Ranjan, IAS, Secretary – Tourism, Govt. of Jharkhand, said, “Jharkhand will contribute immensely to the Indian Tourism portfolio with its diverse range of travel and tourism destinations. We are pleased to announce the inaugural edition of the ‘Jharkhand Travel Mart’ in Ranchi from the 23 – 25 March 2018. The event is an extension of our aggressive marketing approach to introduce more tourism destinations and attractions and reinforce the Jharkhand Tourism Brand among the media, buyers and stake-holders.” The event will seek support from all major national travel – trade and hospitality association in India such as Association of Domestic Tour Operators Association of India (ADTOI), Adventure Tour Operators Association of India (ATOAI), Travel Agents Association of India (TAAI) and Indian Association of Tour Operators (IATO), Federation of Associations in Indian Tourism & Hospitality (FAITH), Hotel Association of Jharkhand, Travel Agents Association of Jharkhand, Federation of Jharkhand Chamber of Commerce and Industries. TAAI Convention from March 27-29 in Srinagar

The Travel Agents Association of India (TAAI) is hosting its annual convention from March 27-29, 2018, in Srinagar. The event is being organised in association with the Ministry of Tourism, Jammu & Kashmir with a view to promote a more visible J&K and its outstanding attributes that extensively support tourism and culture. A press conference will be held on the same at The Claridges, New Delhi on January 31. Karnataka International Travel Expo from Feb 28- March 2 in Bengaluru

The Karnataka International Travel Expo is scheduled to be held from February 28-March 2, 2018, at the Bangalore International Exhibition Centre (BIEC). This was announced by the state tourism department of Karnataka. The inaugural expo is the largest B2B travel event in India. This event is a suitable platform that will see a conglomeration of over 400 registered buyers and media from over 25 countries. Priyank Kharge, Minister for Tourism, IT & BT, Govt. of Karnataka, said “Karnataka is home to a large and exciting portfolio of globally acclaimed tourism products with UNESCO World Heritage Sites, splendid wildlife and resplendent nature, virgin beaches to adorn. ‘Karnataka International Travel Expo’, being held for the first time, will provide the impetus to the inbound travel and tourism and would enhance the marketing efforts of Karnataka Tourism to promote our destinations to the travel-trade from all over the world”. The event will also feature an exclusive Karnataka Pavilion: Destination Karnataka: “Karnataka with its diverse range of products is fast emerging as one of the most interesting and productive states for the travel-trade industry both for leisure and business travel,” said TK Anil Kumar, Secretary – Tourism, Government of Karnataka. The three-day event will attract over 1,000 delegates facilitating over 10,000 pre-matched appointments to bring together International Buyers and sellers for face-to-face meetings, education forums and networking. FICCI’s 3rd Tourism Investment Meet showcased face-to-face scheduled meetings

The third edition of FICCI Tourism Investment Meet was held in New Delhi on July 5-6, 2017 in an attempt to facilitate investment through one-on-one meetings. State tourism departments showcased their policies and facilities that would encourage potential investors to capitalise on tourism. State governments with the likes of Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Maharashtra and West Bengal took part on the occasion and solicited investment in tourism infrastructure through presentations and face-to-face pre-scheduled meetings with the investors. Speaking at the inauguration, Dr Jyotsna Suri, Past President FICCI, & Chairperson, FICCI Tourism Committee, said, “ We have gathered investors from around India, from hotels & resorts, convention centres, theme parks, adventure tourism, roadways etc., and hope this will give tourism the essential push it needs.” Rashmi Verma, Secretary – Tourism, Govt. of India in her special address said, “The tourism industry is one of the largest sectors all over the country, and is a major driver of the economy and for employment generation. Eight countries added to e-visa list

The visa services, which have been expanded for tourism, medical and business purposes, has been extended to eight countries namely Angola, Rwanda, Niger, Cyprus, Cameroon, Sierra Leone, Mali and Burundi, revealed Vinod Zutshi, Secretary – Tourism, Govt. of India. “Apart from this, we are also working on extending the e-tourist visa for five other countries among which Italy, Slovak Republic, Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan are included,” he said at a closed-door meeting held in New Delhi. With this announcement, the total count of countries that can avail the e-visa services is 158.

India’s cruise tourism, MICE products identified as growth sectors at WTM London

Incredible India pavilion at World Travel Market London 2016 was inaugurated by Dr. Mahesh Sharma, Minister of Tourism and Culture (I/C), Government of India, along with Vinod Zutshi, Secretary-Tourism, Government of India, and Ashok Chandra Panda, Minister of State for Tourism & Culture, Government of Odisha. Sharma also launched the official website of Incredible India Global Tourism Mart, scheduled from Feb 1-4, 2017, in New Delhi. MOT has identified cruise tourism and MICE as two niche products available in India for 2017, said Zutshi. The e-Tourist Visa scheme which was introduced to 113 countries globally in August 2015 will be further promoted by India Tourism as a major incentive for travel in 2017.
