Thomas Cook launches new store in New Delhi

Thomas Cook (India) strengthened its presence in North India with the inauguration of a flagship store at Connaught Place. The store was unveiled by Vijay Kumar,  Brand Ambassador, Thomas Cook India. This expansion augments Thomas Cook India’s total number of outlets to 16 consumer access centres with six owned branches and 10 Gold Circle Partner (franchise) outlets in Delhi. Thomas Cook’s new store will offer travellers a range of holiday products (domestic and international tickets, and hotels, cruises, individual and group tours, luxury vacations), foreign exchange, visa services and insurance. Rajeev Kale, ‎President, Country Head–Leisure Travel and MICE, Thomas Cook (India), said, “North India is delivering a strong growth of 20 per cent YoY for our leisure travel business and Delhi has been identified as a prime growth driver as part of our strategic plan. Our new branch at Connaught Place is at a prime location, thus giving our consumers convenient access to a range of holiday products, travel and foreign exchange services.”

ICPB to hold roadshows in Europe

India Convention Promotion Bureau (ICPB) will be conducting roadshows in Europe,  informed Chander Mansharamani, Vice Chairman, ICPB.  He stated this at an interactive meeting of India Convention Promotion Bureau’s (ICPB)  newly elected Governing Board and all members of ICPB at Hotel Samrat, Chanakyapuri, New Delhi. Enlisting new plans of ICPB in 2018, Mansharamani said, “For our international roadshows in Europe, we are planning to go in for three cities, Geneva, Paris and Brussels. Most of the international organisations have headquarters in these three cities.  The department of tourism has already agreed to host the shows. We are raising our own money to hire a PR agency that can get appointments with most of the associations there. That will be between June 12-14.” Elucidating on the roadshows and training programmes in India, he said, “The first roadshow will be in April in Bengaluru. Second, will most probably be in Pune, third will be in Chandigarh and the fourth one will be in Chennai.  The first training programme is on project management, which we are doing for our members. Three more programmes will be based on the certified programmes, where people are certified with international standards, that will be with ICCA and SITE and exhibition industry. The first training programme is in the month of March.” Speaking on the ICPB convention, he concluded, “We are keen to have it in Kolkata, which has an excellent venue. We are planning to have a convention towards the end of August.”

Chander Mansharamani to continue as Vice Chairman, ICPB

Chander Mansharamani has been re-elected as Vice Chairman of India Convention Promotion Bureau (ICPB) for another two-year term. Amaresh Tiwari and Girish Kwatra will also continue on their respective posts of Hon. Secretary and Hon. Treasurer. This was declared during the association’s 30th Annual General Meeting and Elections for the Governing Board held at The Ashok in New Delhi, which was also attended by Suman Billa, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Tourism, Government of India and Chairman, ICPB. New appointments were made in the Hotel, Tour Operator and Congress / Convention Centres categories. The two new appointments in the hotel category were Hemant Mediratta and Saurabh Bhargava & Abinash Manghani (due to a tie for the second post). Gunjan Suri and Naveen Chibber took up the two new posts in the travel agency category while Ajay Vinayak and Anuj Wadhwa took the two posts in tour operator category. The post for the Congress / Convention Centres went to Sudeep Sarcar. Talking about the key priorities for the bureau now, Mansharamani, Vice Chairman, ICPB, said, “The government has been looking at us as the frontal organisation for marketing India as a convention destination. Keeping that in mind, we are completely invested to take things to the next level. Currently, we have outlined three core areas to focus on; first is market creation wherein creating our chapters and bidding of international conferences will be a part of that. Market creation will involve conducting roadshows both in India and international markets. Delhi to host Global MICE Travel Mart

The second edition of the Global MICE Travel Mart (GMTM), the only branded MICE Inbound Tourism platform in India will be held in Delhi from September 14-16, 2017, at The Lalit, New Delhi. The Ministry of Tourism and the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) are organising the event, which will aim to intensively focus on MICE inbound Tourism and Buyer – Seller Meet over two days. The meet shall reap significant transacting and capitalising of business opportunities between international buyers, opinion leaders from main line associations who organise mega conferences in India and sellers of MICE tourism products in India. The mart will be instrumental in putting MICE destinations in India on the itineraries of the foreign tour operators.

Dusit International opens Global Sales Office in India

Dusit International, Thailand’s hotel and property development company, has opened a new Global Sales Office (GSO) in Mumbai, to promote Dusit Hotels & Resorts in India. The new office will manage sales across all market segments including leisure, MICE and corporate business. Primarily, the team will focus on Tier I cities such as New Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru but will also cover smaller cities. Keshwar Bhagat, Director of Sales – GSO India, will head the India office. Lim Boon Kwee, Chief Operating Officer, Dusit International, says, “With the volume of outbound travel increasing by about 25 per cent a year, India is now one of the fastest growing outbound travel markets in the world. When you consider that the World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) has predicted the number of outbound Indian travellers will reach 50 million by 2020, now is the perfect time for us to open a GSO in the country. This comes in tandem with our own growth, which will see our current tally of 29 hotels and resorts top 80 worldwide within the next three-to-four years.”

ITDC, AI join hands to train Air India staff on hospitality skills

India Tourism Development Corporation Ltd. (ITDC), signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Air India to upgrade the skills and knowledge base of the national airline’s senior executive & cabin crew in hospitality and service industry. The MoU was signed in the presence of Ashwani Lohani, Chairman and Managing Director, Air India and Sudha Chandra, Principal, Ashok Institute of Hospitality & Tourism Management (AIHTM) and General Manager, HRD ITDC at Air India Head Quarters, New Delhi on May 29, 2017. In line with the MoU, AIHTM conducted a 5-Day training program on Leadership Excellence from July 11-15, 2017 for the first batch of senior executives of Air India at Hotel Samrat, Delhi. Speaking at the Valedictory function held at Hotel Samrat on July 15, 2017, Piyush Tiwari, Officiating Chairman & Managing Director and Director Commercial & Marketing, ITDC, said, “We are going to plan more programmes in the coming quarters for enforcing strength and leadership quality in other organisations as well.”

VFS launches nationwide network of Japan VACs

VFS Global, in partnership with the Embassy of Japan in India, is expanding the network of Japan Visa Application Centres across the country, bringing visa application facilities to applicants in 13 additional cities in India. As part of the country-wide rollout, VFS Global launched Visa Application Centres in the South Indian cities of Chennai, Bengaluru, Puducherry, Hyderabad, Cochin and Trivandrum. Earlier this month, on March 10 2017, a centrally-accessible and well-connected centre was launched in Mumbai, and on March 3, 2017, a full-fledged Visa Application Centre started operations in Kolkata. So far, New Delhi, Chandigarh, and Jalandhar were the only cities where applicants could submit Japan visa applications through VFS Global centres. Applicants from other cities in India had to submit their visa applications, either in person or through a travel agent, at the Japanese Consulates in Kolkata, Mumbai, Chennai, and Bengaluru or through the submission facilities arranged in Amritsar, Ludhiana, Dehradun, Agra and Guwahati. The network expansion comes close on the heels of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Japan in November 2016. During this visit, Japan Prime Minister Shinzo Abe expressed his intention to enhance the bilateral relationship with India by expanding the number of Japan Visa Application Centres for Indian nationals. H.E. Kenji Hiramatsu, Ambassador of Japan to India, said, “India is an important market for the tourism sector in Japan. In 2016, approximately 1, 23, 000 Indians visited Japan. Chinese visa application centre comes to CP, Delhi

The Chinese Visa Application Centre was inaugurated at Shivaji Stadium metro station, Connaught Place, New Delhi, by HE Lua Zhaohui, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to India; Wei Xiaodong, Vice Director-General, Service Bureau for the Foreign Ministry and its Overseas Missions of China; and Zubin Karkaria, Chief Executive Officer, VFS Global Group. Commenting on the launch, the Ambassador said, “This is going to facilitate tourism between the two countries even further. Both countries boast of a huge population and want a better two-way exchange of tourist arrival numbers.” Adding on, Zubin Karkaria stated, “We anticipate strong tourism growth between India and China and this spacious centre will enable us to cater to the rising demand for China visas and simultaneously enhance the applicant’s experience.” On the occasion, the very first ‘China in Luxury’ outlet was also launched in the centre where travellers can avail premium packages for exclusive travel experiences.
