Renaissance Hotels debuts in Ahmedabad with 29,220 sqft MICE space

Renaissance Hotels, Part of Marriott International, announced the opening of the Renaissance Ahmedabad Hotel in Ahmedabad. This becomes the brand’s third property in India, with two others in Mumbai and Lucknow. Renaissance Ahmedabad Hotel has 155 rooms with six suites, 62 twin rooms, 87 king rooms and 24 inter-connecting rooms. The hotel offers extensive facilities for social events and meetings spread over 29,220 sq ft, of versatile indoor and outdoor spaces. Renaissance Ahmedabad Hotel will feature all of the brand’s unique experiences, including Evenings at Renaissance where guests can connect, socialize, and experience the locale through nightly programming. 218-room Indore Marriott Hotel opens doors

Marriott International has added another property to its portfolio in Indore with the opening of the 218-room Indore Marriott Hotel. This programme integrates three powerful dining loyalty programmes: Club Marriott, Eat Drink & More, and Star Privilege into a single paid membership programme. ‘GST will make India uncompetitive as a MICE destination’

The recent announcement of the Goods and Services Tax slab is predicted to reduce chances of the Indian MICE market as a destination globally.  Neeraj Govil, Area Vice President-South Asia, Marriott International, says, “We are complying with the GST. Most of our big hotels are under 28 per cent space and the rest are under 18 per cent space. We haven’t had any adverse impact at this point of GST but I think it will make international MICE all the way more difficult to get because India will become uncompetitive as a destination with our GST at 28 per cent. While other destinations like Singapore, Bangkok, Hong Kong and Dubai have significantly lower GST rate.”

Marriott to further India portfolio in 2017

Marriott International has plans to open around 15-17 properties in India in 2017 and it is believed that most of the growth will be driven from the tertiary markets for the chain, revealed Neeraj Govil, Area Vice President-South Asia, Marriott International. The hotel chain has marked its entry into two new countries – Nepal and Sri Lanka – with major expansion plans for India as well. Govil said, “We have opened our first Fairfield in Kathmandu and will be opening a hotel in Sri Lanka. In India, we will be opening about 15-17 hotels in 2017 and most of the growth we would have is in the tertiary markets. We are looking to grow across the spectrum of segments.” Speaking about life after the merger with Starwood, Govil adds, “We have managed to synergise on a lot of programmes and are very much on track. Cultural integration will take much more time. We have now set up the corporate structure in South Asia. For us, it is about maximising top and bottom line opportunities and look to have the best in class brands across different locations making sure that the best talent leads our efforts in South Asia.”
