FCM Travel Solutions and KPMG released a whitepaper titled ‘The Digi-Smart Indian Business Traveller’ with a focus on how technology is rapidly revolutionising travel by maximising efficiencies, improving experience and increasing options for the average traveller worldwide and increasingly in the Indian market. IndiGo to connect Colombo from Chennai and Bengaluru from Jan 20

IndiGo has announced that Colombo will become its eighth international destination effective January 20, 2018 with daily direct flights from Chennai and Bengaluru. With these new flights, the airline will also offer connections to and from Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai and other major Indian cities. Sanjay Kumar, Chief Commercial Officer, IndiGo, said, “It gives us immense pleasure to add Colombo to our growing network, which will not only help us cater to the growing tourist potential of the city, but also provide affordable travel options to the Indian workforce who can now look forward to visiting the city more frequently. Maharashtra announces first-ever Mumbai Shopping Festival 2018

Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) in association with the Ministry of Tourism, Government of Maharashtra, is launching the first edition of its annual property, the Mumbai Shopping Festival (MSF). India’s first of its kind citywide three-week festival will be celebrated from January 12-31, 2018, across the city of Mumbai. The festival will include immersive retail experiences clubbed with live performances across the city. In lieu of the recent notification by the Government of Maharashtra where shops and establishments can now stay open 24X7, the Ministry of Tourism and MTDC will set up Mumbai’s first ever Night Bazaar Flea Market which will go on till 4am on weekends only. To enhance visibility of the Mumbai Shopping Festival, MTDC has teamed up with various associations with various retail and commerce bodies including – MCHI – CREDAI, FICCI, FHRAI India, GJEPC India, NAREDCO, Retailers Association Of India (RAI), Indian Bullion & Jewellers Association and the Federation of Retail Traders Welfare Association (FRTWA). Shopping partners for the Mumbai Shopping Festival 2018 include major malls and retail chains in Mumbai.  Adding to the festivities, the Mumbai Shopping Festival will also showcase Mumbai’s first ever Food Truck Zones set up in different areas over the weekends. “Our aim is to establish this event on a global platform as one of the most sought after and visiting shopping and cultural festivals of the world. 2018 to witness ‘transformational’ experiences for cruisers: CLIA

According to a report by the Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA), the next evolution of experiential travel shall witness travellers seeking ‘transformational’ experiences. The recently-released report namely,‘2018 State of the Cruise Industry Outlook’, offered an in-depth look at the cruise industry’s overall global economic impact as well as the trends impacting cruise travel in 2018. Joel Katz, Managing Director, CLIA Asia, said, “With an annual source market growth of more than 40 per cent, Asia is emerging as one of the most significant cruise destinations and cruise source markets in the world. Cruising is expected to capture a much larger percentage of the Asian population in the near future, which could catapult Asia’s share of the global market.” As part of the 2018 State of the Cruise Industry Outlook, CLIA forecast nine top cruise travel trends for the coming year. As per the report, travel agents continue to see a steady demand from consumers in planning and executing holidays. Some upcoming cruise itineraries include the opportunity to indulge in local cuisine, guided tours through small villages and even visits inside private homes.

GoAir adds 30 flights to its network

GoAir shall roll out new additional flights for the winter schedule, effective from November 23, 2017. The airline will operate 22 of these flights on new routes apart from increasing the frequencies by eight flights on existing routes during winters. With the new additions, GoAir would operate an average of 240 flights a day, strengthening its market presence at Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kochi, Kolktata, Lucknow, Nagpur and Patna.  The airline is also inducting new A320 NEOs, taking its fleet strength to 31 aircraft. To commensurate its 12 successful years in the domestic skies, GoAir has also announced an exciting anniversary fare offer starting from Rs 1212 plus taxes on all new sectors. The booking period will be from November 18-21, 2017 for the travel period from November 24, 2017 to October 28, 2018. Jeh Wadia, Managing Director, GoAir, said, “The induction of four new aircraft will cater to the enhanced seasonal demand whilst offering flexibility to customers with more flight options to choose from. Diageo India joins hand with Concur

Concur have announced its partnership with Diageo India, where it aims to provide an expense management software platform to enable Diageo India’ employees to automate their business expenses incurred at source, thereby reducing the burden of manually logging in the business spends. Diageo is an existing Concur customer globally, and will add India as one of its service areas. The new tool will benefit over 2,000 employees of Diageo, based in India. Neeraj Dotel, Managing Director, Concur, said, “Concur helps in automating the travel and expense (T&E) management process in a company’s life cycle and we are well on our way to making it the de-facto expense management software in India and globally.” The Concur platform will be available to Diageo India from October 2017. All employees will have access via desktop and mobile version of the software. Concur has earlier partnered with two of the most popular ground transportation apps – Ola and Uber, which are available in the Concur App Center, which makes it even more effortless for employees to track their cab expenses. Concur also provides users with notifications about risks or natural disasters, which helps employers track the status of their employees when travelling to remote and unsafe locations.

GPS to introduce international destination workshops

The second leg of this year’s GPS, starting July 13, will launch an unique programme of introducing educational workshops with international destinations. Harmandeep Singh Anand, Managing Director, GPS, says, “We have started working with international tourism boards to do an educational workshop for travel agents starting this September-October. Titled ‘GPS Educational Destination Workshop – International’ (EDWIn), it will involve interested agents signing up to travel to a particular international destination to learn about the country at a highly subsidised participation fee.” GPS has already tied up with Singapore Airlines as its international airline partner as well as Genting HK. It is also in talks with various NTOs including Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, Korea, UAE, Egypt, Turkey and Greece. GPS will soon launch a similar programme for domestic destination in partnership with various state boards. Anand explains further, “This will be open only to tier II and tier III travel agents as they are the ones who don’t get enough exposure to the trade as against those in metro cities.” Hitting five more cities through July and August this year is the second leg of the Global Panorama Showcase (GPS – the multi-city trade show for tier II and III cities). It will start with Ahmedabad on July 13, going on to Chandigarh on July 20, Kolkata on July 27, reaching Kochi on August 3 and ending in Pune on August 10. The show will stay in each of these cities for three days.
