ASEAN tourism ministers recognise successful MICE venues

Tourism Ministers from 10 ASEAN countries recently presented the certificate of ASEAN MICE Venue Standards (AMVS) to successful MICE venues from member countries namely Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore and Vietnam during the 37th ASEAN Tourism Forum (ATF2018) held during January 22-26, 2018, in Chiang Mai. Supawan Teerarat, Senior Vice President, Strategic Business Development and Innovation, TCEB, said, “The AMVS programme has been developed as a result of the nationwide success of the Thailand MICE Venue Standard (TMVS) which initiated by TCEB.  TCEB has defined a strategic roadmap throughout the development course and has been working closely with the nine member countries, namely Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore and Vietnam. TCEB had organised five meetings to provide details and clarify the criteria of the AMVS standards for the member countries. At present, the AMVS cover three categories, namely (1) Meeting/Conference Venue or Room (2) Exhibition Venue, and (3) Event Venue. The standards include three key criteria namely 1. Physical Setting (32 indicators) 2. Technology (10 indicators) and 3. Service (13 indicators). International aviation conference underway in Guwahati

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India, and the International Chamber for Service Industry (ICSI) have jointly organised an International Conference on Strengthening Aviation Network between North East Indian Region and Bangladesh, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam (BCLMV countries) at Radisson Blu Hotel Guwahati in Assam, which is underway. The mega event aims to bring nations closer by augmenting and improving travel, trade and people to people contacts through a stronger aviation network. It will be attended by dignitaries from the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Airports Authority of India, as well as Indian and international carriers and other leading aviation business entities. Over the past few years India’s trade with the BCLMV countries has grown exponentially with the total trade with CLMV countries growing seven-fold from $1.4 billion in 2005 to $10.3 billion in 2015 and current trade volume with Bangladesh at about $6.6 billion. The key points of deliberation at the conference were the need of direct connectivity of airlines between NER and BCLMV countries, infrastructure development and capacity building along with the liberalisation of ASEAN open sky policy for NER (I).

TCEB launches special privilege campaign for MICE travellers

The Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau in collaboration with Visa International (Thailand), the Tourism Authority of Thailand, Thai Airways, Thai Smile Airways, and Department of International Trade Promotion, Ministry of Commerce, has launched the ‘Spice Up Thailand 2017’ campaign for the fourth consecutive year. The offers of the campaign include 10 per cent hotel discounts, 50 per cent discounts for car rentals and airport transfers, Bt500 cash coupons for shopping, 25 per cent restaurant discounts, and 50 per cent off golf course green fees. In addition, other hotel, shopping, dining, wellness, activity and transportation promotions have been made available. TCEB president Nopparat Maythaveekulchai said, “TCEB has developed the ‘Spice Up Thailand’ campaign together with five partners in order to promote and create awareness of the MICE industry overseas, as well as delivering a first-class experience to MICE travellers; in turn, this will help to increase spending and encourage MICE travellers to extend their stay in Thailand. “The campaign has been carried out for the previous three years and is continuously developing in terms of adding new privileges for domestic MICE travellers, and targeting the MICE industry in Asia, specifically CLMV (Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam) countries,” he added. In the previous year, a total of 46 MICE events from 16 organisers registered to join the campaign with more than 43,000 coupons redeemed, generating over 20 million views online, Nopparat revealed.
