Maharashtra announces first-ever Mumbai Shopping Festival 2018


Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) in association with the Ministry of Tourism, Government of Maharashtra, is launching the first edition of its annual property, the Mumbai Shopping Festival (MSF). India’s first of its kind citywide three-week festival will be celebrated from January 12-31, 2018, across the city of Mumbai. The festival will include immersive retail experiences clubbed with live performances across the city. In lieu of the recent notification by the Government of Maharashtra where shops and establishments can now stay open 24X7, the Ministry of Tourism and MTDC will set up Mumbai’s first ever Night Bazaar Flea Market which will go on till 4am on weekends only. To enhance visibility of the Mumbai Shopping Festival, MTDC has teamed up with various associations with various retail and commerce bodies including – MCHI – CREDAI, FICCI, FHRAI India, GJEPC India, NAREDCO, Retailers Association Of India (RAI), Indian Bullion & Jewellers Association and the Federation of Retail Traders Welfare Association (FRTWA). Shopping partners for the Mumbai Shopping Festival 2018 include major malls and retail chains in Mumbai.  Adding to the festivities, the Mumbai Shopping Festival will also showcase Mumbai’s first ever Food Truck Zones set up in different areas over the weekends. “Our aim is to establish this event on a global platform as one of the most sought after and visiting shopping and cultural festivals of the world. Bengaluru to host 1st Karnataka International Travel Expo 2018


The inaugral ‘Karnataka International Travel Expo’, shall be held in Bengaluru from February 28–March 2, 2018. This was announced by the Government of Karnataka, Department of Tourism. The expo is set on a B2B platform with over 400 registered buyers and media from over 25 countries exploring business opportunities for discerning travel and tourism products. Priyank Kharge, Minister for Tourism, IT & BT, Government of Karnataka, said “Karnataka is home to a large and exciting portfolio of globally acclaimed tourism products with UNESCO World Heritage Sites, splendid wildlife and resplendent nature, virgin beaches to adorn. ‘Karnataka International Travel Expo’, being held for the first time will provide the impetus to the inbound travel and tourism industry and would enhance the marketing efforts of Karnataka Tourism to promote our destinations to the travel trade from all over the world.” The event is supported by major travel trade and hospitality associations in India such as ADTOI, ATOAI, IATO, TAAI, SKAL, FICCI, Karnataka Tourism Forum, Federation of Hotel and Restaurant Association of India (FHRAI), among others. ‘Single window for meetings & conferences’

GLOBAL mice travel mart

The government shall soon roll out a National Tourism Policy, which is expected to provide single window clearance for organisation of meetings and conferences, informed Satyajeet Rajan, Director General, Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, while addressing the second edition of Global MICE Travel Mart, organised by FICCI jointly with the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, on September 14, 2017, at The Lailt, New Delhi. He said that there was a need to provide incentives to this sector to make it competitive in the world market. He added that there was a pressing need to conduct a study to assess size of the industry and a consultant was being appointed to suggest a workable roadmap for the development of the sector. During the inaugural of this  global mart, which is underway until Sept 16, a FICCI-MRSS Knowledge Paper on ‘MICE Tourism Powerhouse of a New Era Tourism’ was unveiled by the dignitaries. The six-point agenda of the study suggested a six-point roadmap for development of India as a MICE tourism hotspot: Promote concept of exclusive MICE tourism to target markets Maintain co-ordination and align with the Central Agency Developing Time bound action plan Imbibe Skill Development Create experiences for the visitors  Chander Mansharamani, Vice Chairman, ICPB and Managing Director, Alpcord Network Travel & Conferences Management Company, said that MICE was an economic activity and there was an imperative need for the creation of a market for the sector. 2nd GMTM 2017 to showcase MICE destinations in India


The second edition of the Global MICE Travel Mart (GMTM) organised by FICCI, will be held on September 14-16, 2017. This was announced by Rahul Chakravarty, Senior Director – Tourism, FICCI, on the sidelines of FICCI’s Tourism Investors Meet that took place last week. The annual event will be instrumental in putting MICE destinations in India on the itineraries of the foreign tour operators and opinion leaders from India. Recognising the need to propel the highly-potential MICE industry to greater heights, FICCI introduced GMTM in 2016 where the inaugural edition saw a participation of over 30 buyers from 12 countries. Face-to-face meetings among exhibitors and buyers were held along with a panel discussion where insights and challenges of the MICE industry were discussed.

FICCI’s 3rd Tourism Investment Meet showcased face-to-face scheduled meetings


The third edition of FICCI Tourism Investment Meet was held in New Delhi on July 5-6, 2017 in an attempt to facilitate investment through one-on-one meetings. State tourism departments showcased their policies and facilities that would encourage potential investors to capitalise on tourism. State governments with the likes of Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Maharashtra and West Bengal took part on the occasion and solicited investment in tourism infrastructure through presentations and face-to-face pre-scheduled meetings with the investors. Speaking at the inauguration, Dr Jyotsna Suri, Past President FICCI, & Chairperson, FICCI Tourism Committee, said, “ We have gathered investors from around India, from hotels & resorts, convention centres, theme parks, adventure tourism, roadways etc., and hope this will give tourism the essential push it needs.” Rashmi Verma, Secretary – Tourism, Govt. of India in her special address said, “The tourism industry is one of the largest sectors all over the country, and is a major driver of the economy and for employment generation. India, with its abundant tourism products, is replete with different destinations, topography, weather and an old heritage. We have been jumping positions in several reports and have been doing well, especially in the month of May where growth has been 19.4 per cent and is one of the highest achieved. It has been encouraging to see this during May, which is considered as a lean month. 275 foreign buyers and 288 exhibitors at GITB 2017


The Great Indian Travel Bazaar saw a conglomeration of 275 foreign buyers and 288 exhibitors at The Lalit Jaipur. The inbound show, which is underway until April 25, was inaugurated by Suman Billa, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, and Krishnendra Kaur, Tourism, Art and Culture Minister, Government of Rajasthan, Jyotsna Suri, Chairperson, Tourism Committee FICCI, Nihal Chand Goel, Additional Chief Secretary (Tourism, Art & Culture), Bhim Singh, President, Federation of Hospitality and Tourism of Rajasthan, and Rahul Chakravarty, Senior Director and Head-Tourism, FICCI. GITB 2018 in Jaipur from April 22-24

The 11th edition of GITB will be held from April 22-24, 2018, at Jaipur. This was announced by Jyotsna Suri, Chairperson, Tourism Committee, FICCI. “GITB has grown over the last 10 years from 260 buyers to 275 buyers, from 3,000 to 10,800 meetings over the last few years. It has played a vital role in the influx of foreign tourists to India and Rajasthan. We hope that the foreign buyers attending the show become our ambassadors and bring more and more tourists to the country.”
