Israel sees 31 per cent increase in Indian arrivals

Indian tourist arrivals to Israel have increased by 31 per cent from January to December, 2017 with around 60,000 Indian tourists visiting the country last year. This marks a growth of 48 per cent in the last two years, according to statistics released by Israel Ministry of Tourism (IMOT). Hassan Madah, Director, Israel Ministry of Tourism India & Philippines, said, “2017 has been outstanding and by far the best year for Israel tourism in India and worldwide. By October, 2017 we already saw 49,000 Indians arrive in Israel, breaking previous records, and we were positive to close the year with 60,000 travellers to Israel from India. With over 20 million outbound tourists a year, India has been an important market for us. Introducing initiatives, including easing of the visa process and with airlines in India and Israel expressing interest to increase connectivity between the countries, I am confident that this growth will help us achieve 1 lakh Indian arrivals in 2018.”

Travizuu appointed as Jet Airways’ key vendor at Mumbai International Airport

Travizuu has signed an agreement with Jet Airways as a direct travel vendor to its staff at Mumbai International Airport. This collaboration is designed to support Jet Airways growing fleet requirement, and the need to have a designated one point of authorised contact to operate seamless day-to-day travel. Headquartered in Mumbai, Travizuu recently added hundreds of newer models of car which are authorized and ply under the regulation of Transport Department. This partnership will allow them to service Jet Airway’s growing need of cars on the road, ensuring that vehicles are ready for their staff around the clock. “Our strict process of induction is not only confined to drivers but also to vehicles. Ethiopia offers e-visas to MICE participants

Ethiopian Immigration and Nationality Affairs main Department in collaboration with Ethiopian Airlines Group has launched e-visa services for African and international participants of Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions held in Ethiopia effective September 20, 2017. With this, MICE travellers to Ethiopia will be able to issue their visas online, book, pay and check-in their flight with Ethiopian, all online. Group CEO Ethiopian Airlines, Tewolde Gebre Mariam, remarked, “With the immense potential for conference tourism, Ethiopia has still a lot to do to tap into the sector and the launching of an e-visa service for MICE is an impetus for the exponential demand of Ethiopia’s conference tourism; saving time and cost besides inducing a modern online visa application process with more simplicity and efficiency. Indian overnights in Germany witness 13% growth during Jan-May ’17

Germany received 329,860 Indian visitor overnights during January-May, 2017, reflecting a 12.8 per cent growth over the same period in 2016, informed Romit Theophilus, Director, Sales and Marketing, German National Tourist Office (India), at the Discover Germany roadshow held in Delhi recently. “We have had a phenomenal year. We grew by 8.6 per cent year on year and recorded over 413,000 overnights last year. By the end of this year, we hope to close nearly 800,000 overnights from India to Germany. We are on track to achieve our goal of a million Indian visitors to Germany by 2020 and hopefully receive 2 million Indian arrivals by 2030,” said Theophilus. He further informed that until now, Germany had especially been very popular for MICE and business travel from India, but lately, the destination has picked up for leisure travel as well. “It is now a 50-50 split between MICE, business and leisure travellers from India, and we are hopeful that Germany will be seen as a choice destination for all segments,” he adds. The next leg of the roadshow, organised by Destination Germany, will be held in Ahmedabad on September 6 and then in Mumbai on September 8.

Dubai Business Events’ report card for H1 is all cheers

Dubai Business Events (DBE) has projected strong results for the first half of 2017 with 97 bids submitted to host business events being successfully awarded to the city. Key wins include: Baby Care Annual Incentive (2018), World Conference on Desalination and Water Re-Use (2019) and Congress of the International Association for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Allied Professions (2022). DBE representatives have attended over 50 trade events in the first half of the year, interacting with over 4500 business event buyers and planners. The bureau has also facilitated a total of 16 site inspections with 38 clients and hosted 144 buyers from around the world as part of four in-depth Dubai study missions. Steen Jakobsen, Director, DBE, said, “We’ve had a stellar start to the year, and are well on our way to achieving our targets set for 2017. As we continue to work towards further strengthening Dubai’s reputation of being a premier host destination for business events, we have a steady pipeline of initiatives planned for the year ahead. We are also focusing on expanding our network and reach globally, enabling businesses, event buyers and planners to benefit from our expertise.”

2nd Travel Wedding Show witnessed 2000 B2B meetings

The second edition of Travel Wedding Show concluded with over 2000 meetings conducted among 32 exhibitors and nearly 64 buyers from July 8-9, 2017, at Jaipur Marriott Hotel. Representatives from hotels and tourism boards exhibited their various products for wedding tourism. On day one of the show, travel agents and tour operators from across the country interacted with exhibitors while day two of the event saw the bigwigs of the wedding industry in India attend the show to meet and network with various exhibitors. Stalwarts of MICE, wedding tourism and hospitality industry like Hemant Mendiratta, Senior Vice President-Sales, The Oberoi Hotels; Saurabh Bhargava, AVP Sales-North, Taj Hotels Palace Resorts and Safaris; Hema Hariramani, Director, National Sales- India, Marriott International; Rajeev Jain, Vice President and Treasurer, EEMA and Vinod Bhandari, Partner, Wedding Xtraordinaire LLP, addressed various challenges faced by these industries in a panel discussion at the show. The second edition of the Travel Wedding Show will be held tomorrow, July 8, 2017, at the Jaipur Marriott Hotel. The show shall witness 32 high-profile exhibitors including bigwigs from Le Méridien Dubai Hotel & Conference Centre, Taj Hotels & Resorts, The Oberoi Hotels & Resorts, AccorHotels, Abu Dhabi Tourism Board, Austria Tourism Board, Ras Al Khaimah Tourism, Destination Canada, among others. TCEB’s TIME 2017 lures MICE players to Thailand

Around 40 buyers from India, comprising corporate buyers and travel agents, participated in Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau’s (TCEB) second edition of TIME (Thailand Incentive and Meeting Exchange) that was held in Bangkok from June 29-30, 2017. This year, TIME had laid its focus on the Indian market; last year, it had highlighted China’s MICE industry. TIME has been initiated and designed as a Knowledge Exchange, Business Exchange and Experience Exchange programme where buyers and sellers have the opportunity to meet and understand market trends and preferences and products of MICE travellers, specifically the meetings and incentives components. Nooch Homrossukhon, Director, Meeting & Incentive, TCEB, informed that 80 per cent of the total MICE traffic from India is for incentives and therefore, the area requires more attention and education. “India is our top MICE source market after China.Thailand understands the culture, behaviour and preferences of Indian customers better than any other destination,” she said while commenting on the reasons for continuing growth and interest in Thailand. TCEB left no stone unturned in ensuring suitable incentives, team-building activities, and gala dinners for MICE participants for the TIME 2017 event. An extended tour to the northern city of Chiang Mai was organised from July 1-4, 2017, to unravel the MICE facilities in the region to these MICE players. Chiang Mai’s KHUM KHAM International Convention Centre also showcased its MICE industry for TIME 2017 through table top sessions where internal players interacted with Indian MICE participants. There were some 24 booths exhibiting their unique offerings to the Indian MICE players.
