MiCE industry to be valued $1245 bn in 2023: Study


The meetings and events industry is projected to reach $1245 billion in 2023, registering a CAGR of 7.5 per cent growth from 2017 to 2023, states a new report published by Allied Market Research, titled, ‘MiCE Industry by Event Type: Global Opportunity Analysis and Industry Forecast, 2017-2023’. According to the report,  the global MiCE industry was valued at $752 billion in 2016. This growth is seen to emerge from rapid globalisation and expansion of service industries, and evolution of scientific and technological innovations. The meetings segment dominated the global MiCE industry in 2016, due to the growth of the travel and tourism industry, increase in international business travels, and rise in government initiatives for the development of MICE segment & SME sector. Recent trends of organising hybrid meetings, and use of social media and meeting apps are  expected to the boost market growth in the near future. Asia-Pacific is expected to witness the highest growth rate of 8.6 per cent during the forecast period. This region is significantly driven by emerging countries such as Singapore, China, and India. Moreover, ease of visa restrictions, investments in better infrastructure, and high demand in commercial aviation further fuel the growth of the Asia-Pacific MiCE industry. The report also stated that in 2016, Europe dominated the global market with more than 42 per cent market share, in terms of value.

Asia-Pacific sees growth in the meetings and events space: CWT


A report on future trends in the meetings and events space by the CWT Meetings & Events (CWT M&E), a division of global travel management company Carlson Wagonlit Travel, revealed that the overall cost per attendee per day for meetings and events around the globe increased in 2017 and is expected to continue rising next year. Titled as 2018 Meetings and Events Future Trend, the report also looks into regional differences and cost projections, as well as the latest industry trends and top destinations. According to the report, the cost per attendee per day for meetings and events in Asia Pacific has increased by 5 per cent in 2017, the greatest for any region globally. It stated that the prices are not changing much in Asia Pacific, for either hotels or air fares, with a surge of 3.5 per cent and 2.8 per cent respectively. TAAI Convention from Aug 18-20 in Kunming, China


The Managing Committee of TAAI has decided Kunming as the venue for the 64th Convention & Exhibition of TAAI, to be held from August 18-20, 2017. Sunil Kumar R, President, TAAI, said, “We are excited to inform that we are hosted by Yunnan Government, People’s Republic of China. The event is being coordinated by MFITS – Mao Fa International Travel Services, a unit of Service Bureau of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, China.” The exhibition and inaugural dinner will be held at the InterContinental Hotel, Kunming. out. Thailand Travel Mart moves to Pattaya in 2018


Thailand Travel Mart 2017 ended a successful two-year run in the northern capital of Chiang Mai, and will move to the resort city of Pattaya next year. The event was attended by 423 buyers from 56 countries. Although the main markets of China, India, Russia, Europe and the UK dominated the list, the focus on buyers from the eastern European countries, Latin America and South Africa. Moreover, first-time buyers comprised 47.8 per cent of the total. Yuthasak Supasorn, Governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), commented, “The two years of being held in Chiang Mai have given a major boost to travel & tourism in Chiang Mai and will help us better diversify our visitors all around the country and the neighbouring regions. I also believe this has been a great preparatory step towards hosting the prestigious ASEAN Tourism Forum, also at the same venue in January 2018.”

World MICE Day 2017 from Oct 25-27 in China


World MICE Day 2017, will be held during October 25-27, 2017 in Qingdao, China. The event is an initiative of the Qingdao Government and CCPIT-Qingdao Sub Council, BIT Congress Inc. The theme chosen for the maiden edition 2017 is ‘Boosting Silk Road Meeting Industry’. At the three-day extravaganza, 400 domestic and overseas hosted buyers and over 2,000 visitors plan to check-in at the expo, with 150-200 sellers and exhibitors. Thailand doubles VoA fee to 2,000 baht


Starting from September 27, 2016, Thailand, by the order of Ministry of Interior, will increase its VoA fee from 1,000 to 2,000 THB. Tourists from 19 countries including India, Andorra, Bulgaria, Bhutan, China, Cyprus, Ethiopia, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Maldives, Malta, Mauritius, Romania, San Marino, Saudi Arabia, Taiwan, Ukraine and Uzbekistan are entitled to apply for VoA at 42 designated immigration checkpoints, which will allow tourists to stay in the country for up to 15 days.

Thailand MICE garners 60.5bn baht in first fiscal


Thailand had welcomed 750,742 MICE travellers, generating 60.593 billion baht MICE revenue during the first three quarters of the 2016 fiscal year. A total of 393,859 visitors, and 29.664 billion baht were from the meetings and incentives sector. The top 3 MI markets for visitors were India, China, and Singapore. Nopparat Maythaveekulchai, President of TCEB said, “The results of a study on economic impact in 2015 show that the Thai MICE industry helped generate total expenditure of 220 billion baht for the country’s economy, while generating 164,427 jobs, and benefiting industry networking, as well as building our brand and capabilities.”

9th Kerala Travel Mart to host 57 countries


The ninth edition of Kerala Travel Mart (KTM) will host 57 countries with 10 first-time participants in Kochi from September 27 till 30. The new participants include China, Japan, South Korea, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, Georgia, Chile, Greece, Iran and Botswana. “KTM has always placed  emphasis on the identification of quality buyers from new countries on retaining participation levels from conventional markets. With 10 new nations confirmed to participate this year, our efforts have borne fruit,” KTM Society President, Abraham George said.
