Mumbai Port Trust to introduce new international cruise terminal

A top-level delegation led by Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister of Shipping, Road Transport & Highways and Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation, Govt of India, gathered inside Mumbai Port to lay the foundation stone for the new international cruise terminal. Mumbai Port Trust (MPT) proposes to handle 80 per cent of the cruise passengers that will arrive at the port once the terminal is complete. Sanjay Bhatia, Chairman, MPT, said, “As per our consultant’s report, we have the potential to bring in 30 lakh passengers. Based on that projection, we have prepared a second SOP on a national level. We have also recently exempted cruise passengers from e-visa and this is in line with our efforts to make immigration process for international tourists easier and faster. With the new terminal, the area of cruise terminal will be 4.15 lakh sq feet, almost 10 times bigger than what we have today.” Bhatia added that the new terminal will have all the facilities of the domestic airport. Also present at the ceremony were Devendra Fadnavis, Chief Minister, Maharashtra and Jaykumar Rawal, Minister of Tourism, Government of India.

Jet, Air France-KLM sign partnership for Europe-India operations

Air France-KLM and Jet Airways have signed a landmark ‘Enhanced Cooperation Agreement’ for the development of their operations between Europe and India. A first in the history of Indian aviation, this agreement strengthens the partnership built between the three airlines since 2014. This cooperation was expanded in 2016 with an extensive code-share agreement for connections between Europe and North America and Jet Airways’ hubs at Mumbai and Delhi in India via Air France-KLM’ hubs at Paris-Charles de Gaulle and Amsterdam-Schiphol. ICPB’s 10th Conventions India Conclave (CIC) to be held in Hyderabad from August 29-31 at HICC, expects 200-300 delegates during the two-day event. The long-awaited annual convention is aiming to project the Indian subcontinent as the preferred destination for international and domestic conventions. The theme for this year is ‘Expanding the Boundaries – Mission Possible’. CIC will focus on all segments of the MICE industry, creating an opportunity for its members to look for new avenues of business development. MTDC, MPT, MoS to collectively focus on cruise tourism

Mumbai recently saw a gathering of a high-level delegation from different ministries and government authorities who announced their collective plan and focus to develop cruise tourism. Sharing their perspectives were: Nitin Gadkari, Minister of Shipping, Government of India; Jaykumar Rawal, Minister of Tourism Government of Maharashtra, Sanjay Bhatia, Chairman, Mumbai Port Trust, Vijay Waghmare, MD, MTDC and David Dingle, Chairman, Carnival UK. Titled ‘Dawn of Cruise in India’ the seminar aimed at encouraging cruise tourism in India, more specifically Mumbai, by improving infrastructure, facilitating quick and easy movement of cruise passengers, and easing taxation for cruise companies. Gadkari identified the reasons why cruise tourism had not taken off in India. As one of the initial steps, all relevant government agencies such as port authorities, security agencies, immigration authorities, customs, and port health authorities were identified and formed a task force to first assess the current condition and then look at the global best practices. Rawal said, “Maharashtra is pleased to be the homeport of choice for cruises in India. The association with the shipping Ministry mutually assist to formulate policies to support Maharashtra’s position as a cruise hub. Therefore, there is huge potential for cruise tourism among domestic as well as international travellers. Cruise tourism will assist to earn huge foreign exchange and generate job opportunities.”

PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s second edition of the Aviation exposition -Aero Expo India 2017 will be held from November 2-5 in New Delhi. The first Aero exposition was organised last year at Indira Gandhi International Airport with the patronage of the Ministry of Civil Aviation. The 4-day long Aero Expo is also going to witness India’s first ‘Heli-Expo’ at the Pawan Hans Heliport in Rohini on November 4-5. K.N. Mumbai Port to get e-visa facility from December

Mumbai Port will soon be among the three Indian ports in the country that will be able to offer e-visa facilities to international cruise passengers. N.S. Rathor, Chairman, Western Region and Regional Chapter Chairman, Indian Association of Tour Operators (IATO), says, “I was part of the meeting between Sanjay Bhatia, Chairman, Mumbai Port Trust, and the Bureau of Immigration officials who have principally agreed to allow the port to offer e-visa facilities by December, 2017. Currently, only Mangalore, Goa and Kochi offer this.” Talks are on to offer this service from Chennai seaport soon. Foreigners will then be able to enter India through five seaports — Mumbai, Kochi, Chennai, Goa and Mangalore — with electronic visa (e-visa), in addition of 16 airports where the facility is available.

RwandAir flies MICE group on its first Mumbai-Kigali direct

Rwanda Renaissance has announced plans to take a MICE Group on RwandAir’s first ever direct and nonstop flight from Mumbai. The flight will depart Mumbai on April 5, 2017, at 0145 hours, getting into Kigali the same morning at 0515 hours. The group, under the banner ‘Rwanda Calling 2017’ will see over 30 persons travel to Kigali. While the majority will be attending a Religious Meeting at KIBEHO, there will also be investors and businesses looking at opportunities in the country. Ivan Mugisha, Country Manager, RwandAir, remarks, “We are indeed, delighted to fly this group to Kigali, on our first-ever direct and nonstop flight from Mumbai. Vizag hosts CII conference

The Confederation of Indian Industry, Andhra Pradesh in association with AP Tourism, Government of AP, recently organised a conference on Destination Vizag ‘A Hidden Paradise of the East’ in Vishakhapatnam. About 25 representatives of destination management companies joined the conference. They were taken for a tour of Buddhist Circuit in Visakhapatnam as well as an Eco Tourism tour to Araku, Anantagiri hill region of Visakhapatnam District.  While addressing the conference Pravin Kumar, IAS Collector Vizag, said that most of the tourist attractions in Visakhapatnam are unexplored, and mentioned that through good promotional initiatives and marketing the city could emerge as major tourist destination in future.  Sreekanth Nagulapalli, IAS, Secretary, Tourism, Go AP, shared tourist attractions in Andhra Pradesh and Government’s tourism policy to promote infrastructure in tourism sector. Dr Subhash Goyal, Chairman, STIC group, said that Vishakhapatnam needs to be marketed well. He suggested to form a joint working group to initiate the discussion Andhra Tourism Mart. Chetan Gupta, General Secretary, ADTOI, suggested for more air connectivity, need for Tourism Information Offices in the micro cities and need for developing package tours. Hari Narayan, IAS, Commissioner, GVMC said that Municipal Administration is working to promote Quality of Life for both citizens and visitors and many projects are being initiated towards Smart City Project.

First Aero Expo from Nov 18-19 in Delhi

The expo aims to deliberate on remote and regional connectivity, development of technology and infrastructure, along with the new opportunities embodied in the industry. K. N.
