Penang four-city sales mission focuses on business events

The Penang Convention & Exhibition Bureau (PCEB) launched its annual roadshow to India in Mumbai as part of the Penang Roadshow to India 2020. The objective is promoting Penang as the preferred destination for corporate and association meetings, conferences, and incentives, and leisure travel. Capitalising on Penang’s rising popularity in India, the Penang Roadshow to India will host, in each of the four cities, a B2B engagement session with participating Business Events and leisure travel buyers from India. Led by Hon. Yeoh Soon Hin, Penang State Minister for Tourism, Arts, Culture and Heritage, and Ashwin Gunasekeran, Chief Executive Officer of PCEB, the roadshow is supported by a Penang delegation of 14 partners, including hotels, destination management companies, attractions, professional conference organisers and event experts. Also accompanying the Penang delegation is Hon. Satees Muniandy, Penang State Assemblyman for Bagan Dalam. Also joining the roadshow is PCEB’s strategic airline partner, Malaysia Airlines. PCEB is also launching the Penang Specialist Programme designed for the Indian market. The Programme will equip select outbound travel, MICE, wedding and filming agencies with first-hand knowledge of Penang through a full day workshop conducted in each city concurrently with the B2B engagement session. Among the incentives that the Penang Specialists can qualify for are special incentive for group sales of 100 pax and above, famil opportunities to Penang, opportunities to attend PCEB’s training and networking programme in Penang and India, and much more. The certification of the Penang Specialist Programme is valid for three years upon which qualifying members will be invited for recertification. Alfa Destinations Marketing to represent PCEB in India

Penang Convention & Exhibition Bureau (PCEB) has appointed Alfa Destinations Marketing as its representation firm in India to manage travel trade strategy, public relations and industry alignment across both countries. India is proven to be a strong market for Penang and is one of the top five markets for business events in Penang. Over the past year, Penang has received encouraging interest from event planners and conference organisers. In 2017, 13% of Business Events of Asia Pacific origin was from India, contributing RM190 million or USD 46 million. In 2018, Penang’s largest Business Event – V-CON 2018 – which saw a participation of 16,000 delegates from around the world reported that 80% of their delegates were from India. The number of Indian travellers flying in to Penang has also increased in recent years. The Penang Immigration Department reported that for the period between Jan to Nov 2018, 7,250 Indian travellers flew into the Penang International Airport, compared to 6,569 in the same period in 2017. The 10.37% increase came despite there not being direct flights between Penang and India. To further attract the Indian outbound meetings and conference market, PCEB has introduced attractive support packages specially tailored for India. Penang Sales Mission 2019 showcases unique offerings at New Delhi

Penang Sales Mission to India 2019, led by Ashwin Gunasekeran, CEO, Penang Convention & Exhibition Bureau, is being held in New Delhi. The objective of the mission is to promote Penang as the preferred destination for corporate and association meetings, conferences, and incentives, as well as leisure travel. A delegation of 13 Malaysia-based organisations is visiting the capital city, joined by Yeoh Soon Hin, the Penang State Executive Councillor for Tourism Development, Heritage, Arts & Culture. Capitalising on Penang’s rising popularity in India, the Penang Sales Mission to India hosted a B2B engagement session with participating business events and leisure travel buyers from India. Speaking at the event in New Delhi, Hin said, “Penang has always been a melting pot of cultures – an intersection for history and trade. As its State government, we are committed to continue developing the tourism sector and to continue showcasing our proud heritage and history.” He further stated that Penang’s airport was the third busiest airport in Malaysia and had a total passenger movement of seven million in 2018.” Addressing the gathering, Gunasekeran said, “India is one of the top five markets for business events in Penang, and over the past year, we have received encouraging interest from event planners and conference organisers.
