F1H2O Grand Prix to be held in Andhra Pradesh from November 16-18

Amaravati, the capital of Andhra Pradesh, is set to host the fifth round of F1H2O World Championship from November 16-18. Hosted by Andhra Pradesh Tourism Authority, the event is believed to position Amaravati on the world map. Mukesh Kumar Meena, Secretary, Tourism & Culture, Government of Andhra Pradesh, along with Marco Pietrini, Director of Logistics, F1H2O and Sandeep Mandava, CEO, India Xtreme Adventure Activities, organised a press conference in New Delhi, to share updates about the event. Speaking at the conference, Meena revealed, “The F1H2O World Championship is going to be held in India for the second time after 14 years. With a global event like this, Amaravati will be recognised world over. In fact, there will also be a Team Amaravati with two key race drivers from Sweden—Jonas Anderson and Erk Edwin, who have been participating in all the legs of the race. In Amaravati, the race will be held in River Krishna and all the logistics and arrangements will be of international standards.”

Air Odisha launches Jagdalpur-Visakhapatnam service via Raipur

Air Odisha has started its services to Chhattisgarh from Andhra Pradesh, as it launched a flight to Jagdalpur from Visakhapatnam through Raipur. The services launched under the UDAN regional connectivity scheme were inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi through video conferencing. “We are happy to announce the launch of our new routes in Chhattisgarh connecting with Andhra Pradesh. The UDAN scheme is an excellent scheme initiated under the flagship of our Honourable Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, which would aid the growth of the economy where air travel is now more affordable and convenient for the common man. We are delighted to be part of this historic moment of the nation’s aviation sector,” said Shaishav Shah, Managing Director, Air Odisha and Executive Director, GSEC. “In terms of outright benefits to the passengers and travellers, Raipur-Jagdalpur (288 km by road) travel time of 15 hours by train and 6-7 hours by road shrinks to a mere 40 minutes, that too at a cost of Rs 1670,” Air Odisha said in a release. UDAN is to let the common citizens of the country fly by making air travel affordable and widespread, and Air Odisha is able to materialise this goal. With every passing month, Air Odisha is adding more regions to its radar for better connectivity in the towns. In this context, commencement of the regional connectivity scheme in towns like Jagdalpur, Raipur, and Vizag continues to demonstrate Air Odisha’s growth.

33rd IATO Convention underway in Bhubaneswar

The 33rd IATO Annual Convention was inaugurated by a high-level government delegation at Mayfair Convention Centre, Bhubaneswar, Odisha, on September 7, 2017. Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik along with Union Minister of State (I/C) for Tourism, Alphons Kannanthanam, Odisha’s Minister of Tourism and Culture Ashok Chandra Panda and Tourism Secretary Rashmi Verma were present during the inauguration. They announced that the 34th IATO convention will be held in Vishakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. The Tourism Secretary spoke about the new campaign that the Government of India will announce soon. Called ‘Adopt a Heritage’ the campaign is aimed at the corporate and private sector to adopt a heritage monument in association with ASI. The convention is underway until September 9, 2017.

FICCI’s 3rd Tourism Investment Meet showcased face-to-face scheduled meetings

The third edition of FICCI Tourism Investment Meet was held in New Delhi on July 5-6, 2017 in an attempt to facilitate investment through one-on-one meetings. State tourism departments showcased their policies and facilities that would encourage potential investors to capitalise on tourism. State governments with the likes of Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Maharashtra and West Bengal took part on the occasion and solicited investment in tourism infrastructure through presentations and face-to-face pre-scheduled meetings with the investors. Speaking at the inauguration, Dr Jyotsna Suri, Past President FICCI, & Chairperson, FICCI Tourism Committee, said, “ We have gathered investors from around India, from hotels & resorts, convention centres, theme parks, adventure tourism, roadways etc., and hope this will give tourism the essential push it needs.” Rashmi Verma, Secretary – Tourism, Govt. of India in her special address said, “The tourism industry is one of the largest sectors all over the country, and is a major driver of the economy and for employment generation. India, with its abundant tourism products, is replete with different destinations, topography, weather and an old heritage. We have been jumping positions in several reports and have been doing well, especially in the month of May where growth has been 19.4 per cent and is one of the highest achieved. It has been encouraging to see this during May, which is considered as a lean month. Vizag hosts CII conference

The Confederation of Indian Industry, Andhra Pradesh in association with AP Tourism, Government of AP, recently organised a conference on Destination Vizag ‘A Hidden Paradise of the East’ in Vishakhapatnam. About 25 representatives of destination management companies joined the conference. They were taken for a tour of Buddhist Circuit in Visakhapatnam as well as an Eco Tourism tour to Araku, Anantagiri hill region of Visakhapatnam District.  While addressing the conference Pravin Kumar, IAS Collector Vizag, said that most of the tourist attractions in Visakhapatnam are unexplored, and mentioned that through good promotional initiatives and marketing the city could emerge as major tourist destination in future.  Sreekanth Nagulapalli, IAS, Secretary, Tourism, Go AP, shared tourist attractions in Andhra Pradesh and Government’s tourism policy to promote infrastructure in tourism sector. Dr Subhash Goyal, Chairman, STIC group, said that Vishakhapatnam needs to be marketed well. He suggested to form a joint working group to initiate the discussion Andhra Tourism Mart. Chetan Gupta, General Secretary, ADTOI, suggested for more air connectivity, need for Tourism Information Offices in the micro cities and need for developing package tours. Hari Narayan, IAS, Commissioner, GVMC said that Municipal Administration is working to promote Quality of Life for both citizens and visitors and many projects are being initiated towards Smart City Project.
