Incredible India’s new website adds convenience for travellers

Alphons Kannanthanam, Minister of State (I/C) for Tourism, Government of India, launched the new Incredible India website in New Delhi. The website showcases India as a holistic destination, revolving around major experiences such as spirituality, heritage, adventure, culture, yoga, wellness and more. The website follows the trends and technologies of international standards with an aim to project India as a must-visit destination among its overseas travellers. The Ministry will now be able to engage effectively with visitors across web and social channels and measure engagement to deliver real time personalised experiences for each visitor based on their interest and travel persona. It has partnered with Google Arts & Culture in bringing online a series of compelling visuals that will give the user an immersive experience of India’s spectacular heritage, festivity, spirituality, museums and adventure. Going forward, the website will be available in Hindi and leading international languages. Speaking at the event, Rashmi Verma, Secretary Tourism, said that the new website will suggest to a visitor the options and there is no need of any queries. She also added that the website will provide information all over the world about exotic destinations of the country. MOT to close 7 foreign offices, new office in Moscow on the cards

The Ministry of Tourism has decided to close its foreign offices at Los Angeles, Toronto, Sydney, Amsterdam, Paris, Milan and Johannesburg. Alphons Kannanthanam, Minister of State (I/C) for Tourism, confirmed the news saying that they will be closing a few international offices in the near future. According to an official release from the MOT, the ministry will open a new office at Moscow. Thus, the Ministry of Tourism will now have offices at New York, Dubai, Frankfurt, Moscow, Beijing, Tokyo, Singapore and London.

India MICE Awards debuts in Delhi

A first of its kind, India MICE Awards made its debut at The Lalit New Delhi on November 27, 2017. The event honoured the achievers of the Meetings, Incentive, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE) industry. Alphons Kannanthanam, Minister of State (I/C) for Tourism and Minister of State, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India, graced his presence at the event as the esteemed Chief Guest.  Suman Billa, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, was the Guest of Honour. India MICE Awards is a token of appreciation, more than mere acknowledgement, of the dedication and toil that people of the industry have put in. The awards were divided into four categories: 1. Personal Awards: These awards lauds the legends and leaders, who have established themselves, and the youngsters, who need the encouragement. 2. Business Awards: These are for those organisations who have been outstanding in their respective fields and deserve the recognition. 3. Trending Awards: Decided by the critics, these are individuals who have done extraordinary work. 4. Partner Awards:  These are for the Partners, who have contributed to make the event a grand success. The voting is carefully monitored to avoid duplication and ensures transparency. 33rd IATO Convention underway in Bhubaneswar

The 33rd IATO Annual Convention was inaugurated by a high-level government delegation at Mayfair Convention Centre, Bhubaneswar, Odisha, on September 7, 2017. Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik along with Union Minister of State (I/C) for Tourism, Alphons Kannanthanam, Odisha’s Minister of Tourism and Culture Ashok Chandra Panda and Tourism Secretary Rashmi Verma were present during the inauguration. They announced that the 34th IATO convention will be held in Vishakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. The Tourism Secretary spoke about the new campaign that the Government of India will announce soon. Called ‘Adopt a Heritage’ the campaign is aimed at the corporate and private sector to adopt a heritage monument in association with ASI. The convention is underway until September 9, 2017.

Alphons Kannanthanam is the new Tourism Minister

Alphons Kannanthanam has been administered the oath of office as Minister of State (Independent Charge) for the Tourism Ministry by the President of India. He will replace Dr. Mahesh Sharma, MoS (I/C) Tourism and Culture. One of the toppers of IAS batch of 1979, Kannanthanam quit the services in 2006, and was elected a Member of the Legislative Assembly from Kanjirappally in Kottayam District, Kerala. He joined the BJP as Member of National Executive Council in 2011. He is also a practicing advocate in the High Court and the Supreme Court of India. As the Commissioner of Delhi Development Authority from 1992-1997, he demolished 14,310 illegal buildings in Delhi and reclaimed land worth Rs 10,000 crore, giving him the sobriquet of ‘Demolition Man’.
