India moves up in convention ranking: ICCA

In a good news for the Indian convention industry, the country’s worldwide ranking has moved up from 31st to 24th position and in the Asia Pacific from 7th to 5th position, as per the ICCA 2017 statistics. Chander Mansharamani, Vice Chairman, ICPB, “This is a proud moment for ICPB (India Promotion Convention Bureau). With the kind of promotional activities by our members and us, we have been able to better Indian’s position. This would not have been possible without the support of the Ministry of Tourism (MOT). Now we at ICPB are working towards making India as one of the Top Ten Convention Destination, worldwide.  Recently in a landmark decision, the Ministry of Home Affairs stated that it will shortly launch an online module for submission of applications by the organisers of international conferences for seeking clearance from the Ministry. The clearance will be generated through the online system and sent to organisers. Also, a lot of new infrastructure is coming up in a developing India, with new roads being built, convention centers coming up and hotels building meeting spaces. Through the UDAN scheme by the aviation ministry, more Indian budget travellers are flying within the country than ever before. All of this will further help to promote India as a destination for conventions.
