2nd edition of the Travel Business Show kicks off in Gurugram

The 2nd edition of the Travel Business Show, an exclusive MICE event, was held from December 2 –3, 2017, at the Le Meridien Gurgaon. The show was inaugurated by Ma. Teresita C. Daza, Ambassador of Philippines to India, who was also the Chief Guest of the evening. Tourism and MICE continues to be a great contributor to the economy of nations, Daza said. “In 2016, the Philippines economy grew by 6.8 per cent, faster than 5.9 per cent expansion in 2015.  In the third quarter of 2017, it grew by 6.9 per cent. Travel and tourism are important contributing factors for the economy. The sector contributed about 8.6 per cent to the country’s GDP in 2016. The top source markets for the Philippines from Asia include China, Japan, South Korea and Taiwan.  Currently, India ranks as the 12th largest source market for the Philippines. Many Indians visit Manila, Cebu, Palawan, Angeles and Boracay,” she informed. Giving an insight in the popularity of the Philippines as a destination for Indians, she added, “In 2016, the record of Indian arrivals in the Philippines was 90,000, which is an average of about 246 Indian passengers per day.  This number of Indian arrivals is very encouraging, despite visa requirements for Indians travelling to the Philippines.” Giving a synopsis of mega MICE events in the Philippines, she said, “Aside from leisure travel, the Philippines has also been witnessing an immense contribution of  the Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Events (MICE) segment into the growth of the Philippines tourism industry. ITB Asia joins hands with ACTE

India MICE Awards debuts in Delhi


A first of its kind, India MICE Awards made its debut at The Lalit New Delhi on November 27, 2017. The event honoured the achievers of the Meetings, Incentive, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE) industry. Alphons Kannanthanam, Minister of State (I/C) for Tourism and Minister of State, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India, graced his presence at the event as the esteemed Chief Guest.  Suman Billa, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, was the Guest of Honour. India MICE Awards is a token of appreciation, more than mere acknowledgement, of the dedication and toil that people of the industry have put in. The awards were divided into four categories: 1. ICCA sees conglomeration of 1264 meeting experts


The 56th Congress of the International Congress and Convention Association – ICCA, held from Novemeber 12-15, in Prague, witnessed a total of 1,264 meeting industry experts from 79 countries. The event was organised by the Prague Convention Bureau with the support of more than 40 local partners. “According to the results of the impact study prepared for us by KPMG, multiplied revenues from the Prague congress industry were between 22 and 26 billion Czech Crowns in 2016. We expect that 15-25 association congresses or conferences could take place in Prague in the span of the next ten years as a result of the 56th ICCA Congress, generating a revenue of 2.1 billion Crowns in multiplication. Of course, this number may be far from final,” said Roman Muška, Director of the Prague Convention Bureau.

Dubai to host ICCA in 2018


Dubai will host the 57th Congress of the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) next year from November 11-14, 2018, at Dubai World Trade Centre. This year’s edition recently concluded in Prague. Dubai was chosen host city for the 57th ICCA Congress in 2014. The bid for the event was led by Dubai Business Events and Dubai World Trade Centre. The congress will see meeting industry professionals from all over the world gather in Dubai to discuss key challenges and opportunities within the business events industry. Issam Kazim, CEO of Dubai Corporation for Tourism and Commerce Marketing, said: “We look forward to welcoming ICCA delegates next year and hosting an event that plays an important role in the development and growth of the business events industry.” Martin Sirk, ICCA CEO, said: “Economies throughout the Gulf and Middle East are going through huge changes to their business models and are diversifying into a wide range of exciting new sectors; association-related meetings activity is bubbling up across trade.” Business events continue to play a key role in achieving Dubai Tourism Vision 2020 and UAE Vision 2021.

MCI Middle East, and Zahara Tours have signed a new strategic partnership to elevate and develop Oman’s MICE sector in the Middle East market and drive its meetings industry forward. ACE of MICE to be held in Turkey in February, 2018


The fifth ACE of MICE exhibition is going to be held in Istanbul, Turkey, from February 21-23, 2018. Organised by  Turkish Airlines in Turkey, it is the third largest congress of meeting and events exhibition in the world. The city of Istanbul will once again become the focus of the international MICE industry. The event will be held at Istanbul Congress Center with the motto of previous year ‘MICE industry convenes with all of its colours!’ Held every year by the Tourism Media Group organisation, the exhibition will see 746 hosted buyers from 39 countries flock to the city. Over 9,791 business to business (B2B) meetings have been arranged, along with 220 national and international exhibitors, 19 sessions, 35 speakers, 160 sponsors at the event. Over 15,000 domestic and foreign visitors are expected to witness the event. According to the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA), Turkey is among the top ten of the world’s meeting destinations. The country ranks 18th globally as a growing destination for MICE tourism. Turkey is exceptionally well positioned as a destination for the MICE industry, both in terms of trade and culture.
