Lemon Tree Hotels to focus on MICE now

Lemon Tree Hotels will now focus to facilitate MICE service in its properties following  the  booming trend for the sector. Vikramjit Singh, President and Chief Revenue Officer, Lemon Tree Hotels, says, “So far Lemon Tree hotels didn’t focus much on MICE or banqueting facility. But going forward we realise that it’s a big segment which is coming into play. We will be setting up largest convention centre hotel in Gurgaon which will be opened by the end of this year. That will have large banqueting facilities. In Mumbai we are building two hotels close to 1,000 rooms which will also have very large banqueting facilities.”

IATO 32nd convention in Chennai from Sept 18-21

The Indian Association of Tour Operators (IATO) will hold its 32nd annual convention from September 18-21, 2016, at ITC Grand Chola in Chennai. Pronab Sarkar, President, IATO, said, “We were planning to have our convention in Chennai for last couple of years as IATO never had its annual convention in Tamil Nadu earlier. However, this year, it is going to become a dream come true.” More than 1200 delegates are expected for the three-day event and the IATO convention.

Hyderabad to showcase medical tourism at 3rd IIMTC

The 3rd edition of International India Medical Tourism Congress (IIMTC) will be held in Hyderabad from September 3-4.The Congress organised by International Indian Wellness and Medical Tourism Association (IIWMTA) and Society of Critical Care Emergency Medicine (SCCEM) aims to streamline, promote, and propagate ‘Brand India’ in the arena of medical tourism. The Travel Agents Association of India (TAAI) will hold its 63rd convention in Abu Dhabi from October 14-16, 2016. Sunil Kumar, President, TAAI, said, “We have decided on Abu Dhabi as the venue for our next convention. It is one of the strongest destinations in the Middle East region. TCEB launches TIME 2016 – MICE knowledge exchange

Offering the MICE industry a new platform for knowledge exchange and business negotiations among MICE operators and to support the MI business, the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (Public Organization) TCEB has launched the first Thailand Incentive & Meeting Exchange 2016 programme or TIME 2016. Nopparat Maythaveekulchai, President of TCEB said: “The Business Meetings & Incentives or MI segment of the MICE industry has achieved its target last year in terms of visitor numbers and revenues. Last year, the MICE industry as a whole attracted 1,095,995 visitors, contributing THB 95.9 billion baht (US$2.7 billion) to total MICE industry revenues.”

Thailand MICE industry back to normal post attacks

The Thailand Convention & Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) has issued a statement informing international stakeholders that Thailand’s MICE industry continues to operate as normal, and that all public and private sector stakeholders are working together to monitor the situation. This came as an affirmative statement following recent explosions in public areas in some Thai provinces. All hotels, venues and attractions are open and ready to welcome business travellers. Transportation links, major roads and airports continue to operate, including Bangkok’s BTS Skytrain and MRT services and both Don Muang and Suvarnabhumi International Airports, the statement said.

Sri Lanka YOY surges 15% through Indian MICE

According to the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority, the country is emerging as a high potential incentive destination and corporate venue with a growth of over 15% YOY, and over 233,000 MICE visitors from India in the past six years. Sri Lanka Convention Bureau and SriLankan Airlines has joined hands with Thomas Cook (India) Ltd. to harness MICE travel to Sri Lanka. Rajeev D. Kale, President & Country Head – Leisure Travel, MICE, Thomas Cook (India) Ltd. said, “Sri Lanka is an island nation steeped in history, with an exciting diversity of spectacular experiences, which coupled with its cultural heritage, engaging outdoor activities and culinary delights, make it a must-visit destination for MICE travellers.”
