Kerala projects Muziris as MICE destination


Kerala Tourism’s eco-adventure, Project Muziris, aims to reinstate the historical and cultural significance of the legendary port of Muziris and promote Kerala as a MICE and wedding destination. Eco-adventure tour,  focused on the hills and forests of the Western Ghats, will be part of the tourism scheme. U V Jose,  Director of Kerala Tourism says, “Our main objective is to promote newly started initiatives. From picture perfect landscapes and exciting getaways to rich culture and heritage, the state has a lot to showcase, not to forget the delectable cuisine, music and art.”

Dubai to host CRS 2016


Dubai is set to host the Corporate Restructuring Summit (CRS)  2016, the first event of its kind in the GCC region place from November 8-9, 2016 at the Dusit Thani Hotel. According to International Monetary Fund (IMF), the Middle East,  saw an estimated US$12 billion worth of bad debt being restructured in the past five years and debt restructuring worth US$78 billion will be required in the next two years in the UAE alone. The summit will focus on the challenges that financial institutions face and the opportunities for financially troubled corporate in the Middle East to remain sustainable.

Crowne Plaza Singapore Changi Airport opens S$82m wing for transit travellers


In a bid to increase the numbers of visitors, Crowne Plaza Singapore Changi Airport opened an extension with 243 business rooms in a 10-storey building. The new extension has S$82 million invested by OUE Airport Hotel Pte Ltd (OUEAH). The hotel is looking to market itself towards multinationals in Singapore. “For Crowne Plaza Singapore Changi Airport, it is also the hotel’s strategic location at Terminal 3 and seamless connectivity to Changi Airport that make it the best choice for transiting passengers and business travellers, especially those visiting the nearby business parks and MICE venue,” said Sunshine Wong, General Manager, Crowne Plaza Singapore Changi Airport.

Saudi to invest SAR6bn on MICE industry


The Saudi Government is planning to invest SAR6 billion to become the leading destination for the MICE industry by 2020. It is estimated that its MICE visitors spending was 20 per cent of the total tourism revenue, recording SAR10 billion annually. This trend is expected to surge in the coming year. Riyadh Exhibitions Company offers the highest level of trade shows like the Riyadh Motor Show, the Saudi Print & Pack and Plastics & Petrochemical, Saudi Build, Saudi Agriculture, Saudi Health, which are vital to the sector.

Chennai, a hot spot for MICE


The tourism industry in Tamil Nadu is estimated at becoming the largest in India with an annual growth rate of 16 per cent. The state is a popular MICE destination due to its strong IT, healthcare, heavy engineering ecosystem and automobile industries. The suited MICE infrastructure, which has 15 properties in the capital, including Chennai Trade Centre, makes the metro a hot destination. “Chennai accounts for about 60 per cent of India’s automotive exports and its expanding industrial activity is attracting the MICE and leisure segments to the metro,” a tourism department official said.

Berlin tops list for international meetings


Berlin has earned the top spot in the current ranking of the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA). Having hosted 195 events last year, the city has surpassed both Paris and Barcelona. In 2001, Berlin welcomed 4.2 million participants, while in 2015, the number surged to 11.37 million. Berlin’s meetings industry generated €2.31 bn in revenues in 2015.

Thailand MICE to generate US$ 4 billion by 2022


Thailand as a MICE destination is poised to attract more than 1.3 million MICE travellers and generate about US$ 4 billion revenue by 2022. The country is a suited destination for MICE due to its solid basic infrastructure, strategic location, developed transportation systems, international connectivity, a well-trained private sector, continual government support and sound regulations.  Thailand’s meeting industry market share was around 75 per cent for the year 2015 and is expected to continue its dominance till 2022.

The announcement was made at the GBTA Convention 2016. Sabre selected iJET International as the exclusive provider of travel and security intelligence to SafePoint .
