Fiji Marriott Resort Momi Bay offers 1,200 sqm of outdoor space for events

Marriott Hotels, Marriott International’s flagship brand, opened its first hotel in Fiji, as Fiji Marriott Resort Momi Bay. Nestled on the secluded beaches of Momi Bay on the western coast of Viti Levu, the resort is ideal for inspirational weddings, special events, conferences and meetings. Jaisalmer Marriott Resort & Spa opens with 3251 sq.ft. outdoor space

Marriott International has expanded its portfolio in India with the recent opening of the Jaisalmer Marriott Resort & Spa. The property offers 135 exquisitely designed rooms with nine suites. Perfect for weddings and social events, the newly opened property offers 3251 sq. m. of outdoor space surrounded by lush green lawns interspersed with sparkling water bodies which can host up to 1,500 guests. Vienna records 11 per cent growth in corporate events in 2016

Austrian capital Vienna has emerged as a city of international dialogue hosting 4084 congresses, conferences and corporate events in 2016. India, too, had a small but growing role to play in this with the Vienna Convention Bureau reporting 14 corporate events from the Indian sub-continent. According to Vienna Convention Bureau, attendees to corporate events from India contributed to 11,459 overnight stays, nearly 10 per cent of the overall overnight stays of 115,531, and a 43 per cent jump from the subcontinent over its contribution in 2012. “In 2016 Vienna’s meetings industry recorded more events, bednights and value-added than ever before,” says Norbert Kettner, Director, Vienna Tourist Board. An 11 per cent growth in congresses, corporate events and incentives in Vienna led to 567,000 global attendees and 1,718,000 overnight stays. Vienna boasts of dozens of highly attractive venues such as the imperial Hofburg, the Austria Center Vienna and Messe Wien. Viennese meetings, congresses and incentives industry that employs nearly 20,000 year-round jobs in Austria is backed by dedicated event organisers. “Vienna is an easily accessible central European hub with a multifaceted hotel sector and top meeting locations,” explains Kettner. “Meetings are optimally supported by both urban and scientific establishments, and, with 36 licensed certification agencies for Green Meetings, Vienna has already demonstrated far-sightedness with respect to environmental compatibility and sustainability,” adds Kettner. The nation-wide value-added of the Vienna conference industry once again broke the significant billion-Euro barrier, contributing a total of 1.072 billion Euros (+3 per cent) to the Austrian gross domestic product.

Bellagio to debut in Shanghai with 2,000 sq. m. of meeting space

Set to open in June this year, the 165-room Bellagio by MGM Shanghai will offer close to 2,000 sq. m. of meeting space, besides elegantly designed rooms and the Presidential Suite. Located on the banks of the Suzhou River, the hotel will be the second Bellagio hotel in the world and the first outside the Unites States.  The F&B options at the hotel will include Mansion on One, a Cantonese and Shanghainese cuisine restaurant; Lago, a restaurant offering Italian cuisine; and Café Bellagio, an all-day dining restaurant.

In a crucial meeting, the Secretary Tourism and Floriculture, Jammu and Kashmir, Farooq A Shah along with the ICPB India convention promotion bureau (a body working under the aegis of Ministry of Tourism GOI for promoting MICE Tourism), decided to enable a platform for the state of Jammu and Kashmir to showcase itself as a suited MICE destination. The office bearers of the ICPB assured the Secretary that the state will be promoted as one of the priority venues for conferences and events of national and international standard. Shah showcased the international standard MICE tourism potential of the state particularly in Kashmir like SKICC, Pahalgam club, and places like Gulmarg and Jammu as well. The secretary agreed to organise an intractable evening session specifically for promoting the MICE potential of the state in which leading prominent MICE tourism promoting organisations will be invited to know about the international standard convention and post-convention avenues available in the state. MICE-in-the-bag, also called MICE of cards, a unique concept that brings together buyers and suppliers from the Meetings, Incentives, Conference and Exhibitions (MICE) industries will be held London on March 15, 2017. MICE-in-the-bag is the brainchild of its two founders, Rosy Burnie, member of TM – Institute of Travel & Meetings, GBTA – The Global Business Travel Association, ACTE – Association of Corporate Travel Executives and Ayse Sabbatini, an industry expert. The event is targeted at reducing the prospective marketing spend for MICE suppliers and providing more effective service for buyers. The concept involves the creation of pop-up, one-stop meeting environments for sellers and buyers of MICE. Pre-screened dating, sellers are matched with budget-ready buyers in specific conference and event locations. This offers a significant saving in prospecting costs to the suppliers, putting them in a position to pass on savings to the buyers in more attractively-priced packages. India among top 10 business travel markets: FCM-KPMG

The Indian business travel market is expected to surge 12 per cent in five years and is also ranked among the top 10 business travel markets with a spend of $29.6 billion in 2015. This was revealed in a white paper titled ‘Business Travel in India’ Emerging Trends & Opportunities’ released by FCM Travel Solutions along with KPMG. The report also details business travel spending in top 15 countries across multiple sectors over a period of five years. India is all poised to lead this growth and accordingly by 2030 business travel spending in India will have trebled from the present levels. The paper gives a comprehensive glimpse in to where and how business travellers in India are spending. Asia has become the world’s largest business-travel market, and trends suggest India’s significance within APAC will only grow with time.
