DusitPrincess Dhaka to open for business travellers by year end


Dusit International has announced the opening of its first hotel in Bangladesh, the DusitPrincess Dhaka. It is slated to open at the end of 2017. A short drive from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, the hotel will feature 80 guest rooms and 10 suites. The hotel will comprise an all-day dining restaurant, a meeting room, and recreational facilities. The hotel’s proximity to key commercial districts and manufacturing sites will boost the arrival of business travellers to the hotel.

Marriott to further India portfolio in 2017

Marriott International has plans to open around 15-17 properties in India in 2017 and it is believed that most of the growth will be driven from the tertiary markets for the chain, revealed Neeraj Govil, Area Vice President-South Asia, Marriott International. The hotel chain has marked its entry into two new countries – Nepal and Sri Lanka – with major expansion plans for India as well. Govil said, “We have opened our first Fairfield in Kathmandu and will be opening a hotel in Sri Lanka. In India, we will be opening about 15-17 hotels in 2017 and most of the growth we would have is in the tertiary markets. We are looking to grow across the spectrum of segments.” Speaking about life after the merger with Starwood, Govil adds, “We have managed to synergise on a lot of programmes and are very much on track. Cultural integration will take much more time. We have now set up the corporate structure in South Asia. For us, it is about maximising top and bottom line opportunities and look to have the best in class brands across different locations making sure that the best talent leads our efforts in South Asia.”

Holiday Inn Chennai OMR IT Expressway opens with 5,000 sqft meeting space


InterContinental Hotels Group has announced the opening of Holiday Inn Chennai OMR IT Expressway. The hotel has 5,000 sq ft of flexible meeting space. The company also expressed that it is on track to having 150 hotels open or in our pipeline within the next 10-15 years. This growth will largely be driven by the Holiday Inn brand family with a distinct focus on Crowne Plaza and InterContinental Hotels and Resorts in key gateway cities. Sudeep Jain, Vice President, Development, South West Asia, IHG, said: “All three properties will draw synergies from IHG hotels located nearby and will reinforce our position in South West Asia. While IHG already has a strong and growing presence in India, we are looking at developing our portfolio further in Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Pakistan.”

Bellagio to debut in Shanghai with 2,000 sq. m. of meeting space


Set to open in June this year, the 165-room Bellagio by MGM Shanghai will offer close to 2,000 sq. m. of meeting space, besides elegantly designed rooms and the Presidential Suite. Located on the banks of the Suzhou River, the hotel will be the second Bellagio hotel in the world and the first outside the Unites States.  The F&B options at the hotel will include Mansion on One, a Cantonese and Shanghainese cuisine restaurant; Lago, a restaurant offering Italian cuisine; and Café Bellagio, an all-day dining restaurant.
