HRAO to organise workshop on tourism development in western Odisha on June 20

The Hotel & Restaurant Association of Odisha (HRAO) is set to organise a state-level workshop on the development of tourism in western Odisha on June 20. The workshop, scheduled to be held at Hotel The Grand Siba in Sambalpur, will be attended by hoteliers, tour operators, travel agents and other stakeholders. Important decision makers, government officials, media and political leaders have also been invited to give their inputs for giving a boost to the tourism growth of Western Odisha. With the addition of Jharsuguda, Rourkela and Jeypore airports in the state, the association now wants to make Odisha a 21-night destination. “With the benefits of the new tourism policy, the HRAO is now willing to spread out with additional 5000 rooms in all tourist locations of the state, specially Western Odisha. Currently, we have the lowest number of star hotels (10 hotels) and classified rooms (670 rooms) in Odisha,” said J K Mohanty, Chairman – HRAO & IATO, Eastern Region.

ITC Kohenur opens in Hyderabad with nine meeting spaces

Hilton eliminates plastic from conference spaces across its Asia Pacific hotels

Hilton announced elimination of plastic straws across its managed hotels in Asia Pacific by end 2018, and transition away from plastic bottles from its conference and event spaces. This follows the company’s global commitment to cut its environmental footprint in half and double its social impact investment by 2030. The company will also double the amount it spends with local and minority-owned suppliers, and double its investment in programs to help women and youth around the world. These goals are part of Hilton’s Travel with Purpose corporate responsibility strategy to further the United Nation’s 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda. “As a global hospitality company operating more than 5,300 hotels in over 100 countries and territories, we are committed to have a positive impact on the communities we operate our hotels in,” said Alan Watts, Executive President and President, Asia Pacific, Hilton. “We believe waste is a solvable problem. By focusing first on plastic straws and plastic bottled water, we take another step forward in our journey to ensure that the destinations where travellers work, relax, learn and explore are vibrant and resilient for future generations to come.” Hilton is already an environmental leader in the industry. Since 2008, the company has reduced carbon emissions and waste by 30 per cent, energy and water consumption by 20 per cent saving more than $1 billion in operating efficiencies. LightStay, an award-winning performance measurement system calculates, analyses and reports the environmental impact at each of Hilton’s more than 5,300 hotels. Hilton will use LightStay to track its goal of reducing carbon emissions by 61 per cent across its portfolio by 2030.

Lemon Tree Hotels, have launched Lemon Tree Hotel, into the industrial town of Himachal Pradesh called Baddi. Carnation Hotels Private Limited, the hotel management arm of Lemon Tree Hotels, will be managing this midscale hotel. The hotel encompasses 25,000 sq ft of combined banquet space. It has a modern conference room, Tangerine that has a space of 3,000 sq.ft., a board room, two lush green lawns spreading over 10,000 sq.ft. each, and a terrace top venue it transforms into as a stunning venue for destination weddings, corporate events, social dos as well as stay conferences. The Tamara opens in Kodai with spacious meetings space

The Tamara Kodai is the newest addition to The Tamara brand of luxury resorts. It is located in the historical La Providence in Kodaikanal in Tamil Nadu and It offers 53 suites of French Provincial design, each boasting of a bedroom with large balcony, living room, and an attached bathroom. It also has a Ball Room that can accommodate more than 100 guests with a spacious pre-function area. The wellness facilities will include The Elevation Spa, Yoga Lounge, and a fitness center. La Providence is a historical structure dating back to the 1840s that was known to be one of the first structures to come up in the region. An expansion took place staying as close to the old colonial style of architecture as possible.

IHCL announces its first Taj in Saudi Arabia

The Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL) has announced its foray into the Holy City of Makkah, Saudi Arabia, with a partnership with Umm Al Qura Development and Construction Company in the prestigious King Abdul Aziz Road (KAAR) project, one of the largest urban rejuvenation projects in the city of Makkah. Commenting on the signing of this agreement, Puneet Chhatwal, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, IHCL, said, “We are honoured to partner with Umm Al Qura Development and Construction Company in bringing the first Taj hotel to Saudi Arabia. This signing is aligned to our strategy of a strong focus on global growth markets and to be present where our guests travel to. We are committed to expanding our presence in the MENA region.” This hotel will be IHCL’s fourth venture in the MENA region. The company manages Taj Dubai located in the Burj Khalifa downtown area. It will also open another two hotels in Dubai in the next twelve to eighteen months.
