Kolkata, Chennai emerging as optimum cities for MICE facilities

Kolkata and Chennai have emerged as one of the few cities which offer suitable MICE offerings at a reasonable rate. Kolkata’s super-luxury hospitality space will add over 500 rooms in the super-deluxe category in the next three months. Currently , Oberoi Grand, Taj Bengal, ITC Sonar and Hyatt -together offer 917 rooms. The count will go up to 1,231, a 134 per cent jump over the current strength in the next 18 months. Ranju Alex, GM of JW Marriott Kolkata, said, “Kolkata, with its unique character and soul, is a significant addition to the MICE map globally.” Shift of MICE from Mumbai and Hyderabad to Chennai, owing to cheaper room rates, has spurred growth for the city.

AccorHotels has joined hands with LinkedIn to enrich its mobile app for travellers. All AccorHotels guests can use this new feature ‘Business Check powered by LinkedIn’ to create and facilitate business opportunities. The guests can avail 40 per cent off plus free breakfast for members of Accor Plus or 30 per cent off plus free breakfast for Le Club AccorHotels’ members and the general public. The sale applies to selected hotels across AccorHotels’ Sofitel, Pullman, MGallery, Grand Mercure, The Sebel, Novotel, Suite Novotel, Mercure, ibis, ibis styles and ibis budget hotels worldwide. Lemon Tree Hotels will now focus to facilitate MICE service in its properties following  the  booming trend for the sector. Vikramjit Singh, President and Chief Revenue Officer, Lemon Tree Hotels, says, “So far Lemon Tree hotels didn’t focus much on MICE or banqueting facility. But going forward we realise that it’s a big segment which is coming into play. We will be setting up largest convention centre hotel in Gurgaon which will be opened by the end of this year. That will have large banqueting facilities. In Mumbai we are building two hotels close to 1,000 rooms which will also have very large banqueting facilities.”

Jannah Hotels expand to Ras Al Khaimah

Abu Dhabi-based Jannah Hotels and Resorts will expand to Ras Al Khaimah to tap the undersupplied market in the emirate. The hotel operator and developer expects to manage 100 hotel apartments and 24 villas of three to five bedrooms called the Jannah Resort and Villas in December this year. “Ras Al Khaimah is close to Dubai and has an airport. For an investor, now is the perfect time to penetrate the market.” said Nehme Darwiche, Chief Executive of Jannah Hotels and Resorts.
