TCEB promotes ‘Meet by Design’

Thailand Convention & Exhibition Bureau (TCEB), with a mission to promote MICE industry in Thailand in partnership with Thai Airways International and Travel Clinic announced a new promotional campaign called ‘Meet by Design’ at an exclusive dinner, ‘Thailand MICE Corporate Networking’  at The Leela Ambience Gurugram Hotel & Residences on February 15, 2018. Nooch Homrossukhon – Director – Meetings and Incentive Department, Thailand Convention & Exhibition Bureau, stated, “We have formed a great partnership in the Indian market, and work very closely with our allied partner like Thai Airways international. We will associate with Travel Clinic for the first time. We work closely with boutique and chain hotels in Thailand who have a MICE facility to promote the destination altogether. From 2016 to 2017 there has been a huge growth in India MICE visitors,  of about 36 per cent. We will try to sustain the two-digit growth.” She said, “We are launching the new promotional campaign called Meet by Design – comprising three campaigns, Meet Now, Meet Smart and Meet Mega.  Meet Smart is in line with the government policy of driving Thailand 4.0. We are targeting the ten growth industries. If the corporates coming are from these ten targeted industries in a group of 100 they will get subsidies of upto 100,000 bath per group. If they have a corporate meeting for two full day meetings, three nights, they can book two months in advance, and stay in Thailand MICE Venue Standard (TMVS) certified as listed on website.” She added, “Competition is getting fiercer but our key strengths is our hospitality and our understanding of the needs and wants of the Indian travellers. ASEAN tourism ministers recognise successful MICE venues

Tourism Ministers from 10 ASEAN countries recently presented the certificate of ASEAN MICE Venue Standards (AMVS) to successful MICE venues from member countries namely Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore and Vietnam during the 37th ASEAN Tourism Forum (ATF2018) held during January 22-26, 2018, in Chiang Mai. Supawan Teerarat, Senior Vice President, Strategic Business Development and Innovation, TCEB, said, “The AMVS programme has been developed as a result of the nationwide success of the Thailand MICE Venue Standard (TMVS) which initiated by TCEB.  TCEB has defined a strategic roadmap throughout the development course and has been working closely with the nine member countries, namely Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore and Vietnam. TCEB had organised five meetings to provide details and clarify the criteria of the AMVS standards for the member countries. At present, the AMVS cover three categories, namely (1) Meeting/Conference Venue or Room (2) Exhibition Venue, and (3) Event Venue. The standards include three key criteria namely 1. Physical Setting (32 indicators) 2. Technology (10 indicators) and 3. Service (13 indicators). The Philippines unveils MICE Roadmap 2030

The Department of Tourism (DOT) of the Philippines has launched a multi-sectoral plan that envisions to re-establish the Philippines as a top international convention destination, as well as a flourishing business and trade hub in the Asia-Pacific region. The DOT and the Tourism Promotions Board (TPB), in a joint effort with the Philippine Association of Convention/Exhibition Organizers and Suppliers Inc. (PACEOS) and the Department of Trade and Industry Board of Investments (DTI-BOI), crafted the ‘Meetings, Incentives, Conventions and Exhibitions (MICE) Roadmap 2030’. “The DOT stands by PACEOS in promoting the Philippines as a top MICE destination. The country’s successful hosting of big-ticket international events recently proved that we are on the right track,” said DOT Secretary, Wanda Tulfo-Teo. The ‘MICE Roadmap 2030’ was unveiled at the historic Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) Summit Halls with the goal of placing the country to the top 10 rankings in International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA). Teo assured PACEOS that the government fully supports its efforts to bring back the Philippines’ luster as an international event venue. “The Philippines ranked 8th worldwide and 1st in the Asian region in the annual listing of leading world convention destinations in 1982.  With this roadmap, we can reclaim our rightful place as a MICE powerhouse,” said DOT Undersecretary Benito Bengzon Jr. In the 2016 ICCA Statistic Report Country & City Rankings, the country placed 48th out of the 116 countries worldwide and 14th of 35 countries in the Asia Pacific and the Middle East regions in terms of having the most number of meetings. The 37th ASEAN Tourism Forum (ATF 2018) is underway at the Chiang Mai Exhibition and Convention Centre (CMECC), Thailand. Themed as ‘ASEAN-Sustainable Connectivity, Boundless Prosperity’, the forum will be until January 26, 2018. Yuthasak Supasorn, Governor, Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), said: “This year, we are proud to mark the first ATF after commemorating the 50th anniversary of ASEAN in 2017. We are delighted to have participated strongly in the “Visit ASEAN@50” campaign with a series of carefully selected Thai products, tour packages and offers to bring memorable travel experiences.” The week-long event includes meetings of the ASEAN Tourism Ministers and national tourism organisations, private sector groupings representing ASEAN hotels, restaurants, travel agents, tour operators and airlines and bilateral meetings with dialogue partners; such as, Russia, China, Japan, India and South Korea. KTM Society’s nine-point charter focuses on making Kerala a sustainable destination

The Kerala Travel Mart (KTM) 2018, to be held in September this year, has already received nearly 600 registrations in just five days after the pre-registration got underway. From the domestic buyers alone, the KTM received 485 applications and 105 registrations from the international buyers. July 28 is the closing date for the registration. Baby Mathew, President of the Kerala Travel Mart Society, said the huge initial response from the buyers is a clear indication of a larger number of tourism stakeholders getting attracted to the stellar tourism gathering over the years. “No doubt, nearly 600 applications in five days is very encouraging. We are expecting a record number of registrations for this year’s edition,” he added. KTM 2018 will be inaugurated in Kochi on September 27, coinciding with the World Tourism Day. The opening ceremony will be followed by three days of business- to- business meetings. The KTM Society has started implementing a comprehensive nine-point charter, ‘Agenda 9,’ which focuses on making Kerala a sustainable destination. It mainly calls for measures to tackle waste management, promote organic farming, efficient use of energy and extensive use of local produce and products. Other key areas which will come up for deliberations are rainwater harvesting, reducing the use of plastics, and improving greenery.

FITUR 2018 witnesses 13 per cent surge in international participants

IFEMA kicked off the international schedule of tourism trade fairs with FITUR 2018, one of the greatest business platforms for world tourism in Madrid, Spain from January 17-21,2018, with India as its Partner Country. Like every year, the event allowed agents from the travel and tourism industry to establish the lines of work that will set the programme for the entire year. Many business meetings were held, and contacts and business exchanges were made. The international trade show is said to have generated 260 million euros over its five days. The tourism fair grew by 8 per cent, while the international participation grew by 13 per cent this year.
