Thailand MICE industry back to normal post attacks


The Thailand Convention & Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) has issued a statement informing international stakeholders that Thailand’s MICE industry continues to operate as normal, and that all public and private sector stakeholders are working together to monitor the situation. This came as an affirmative statement following recent explosions in public areas in some Thai provinces. All hotels, venues and attractions are open and ready to welcome business travellers. Transportation links, major roads and airports continue to operate, including Bangkok’s BTS Skytrain and MRT services and both Don Muang and Suvarnabhumi International Airports, the statement said.

Qatar gains strong MICE foothold globally: OBG


According to a report by Oxford Business Group (OBG), Qatar has positioned itself strongly in the global map as a destination for meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions with more than 150 business conferences hosted every year. In “The Report: Qatar 2016,” OBG said that Doha has a strong foothold in the global market for MICE, hosting a broad range of international gatherings each year. Among the main offerings in the MICE segment for Qatar is the 40,000 sq m Qatar National Convention Centre, the QR2.3bn ($631mn) Doha Exhibition and Convention Centre in West Bay, and key venues like the Sheraton Grand Doha Resort & Convention Hotel.

9th Kerala Travel Mart to host 57 countries


The ninth edition of Kerala Travel Mart (KTM) will host 57 countries with 10 first-time participants in Kochi from September 27 till 30. The new participants include China, Japan, South Korea, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, Georgia, Chile, Greece, Iran and Botswana. “KTM has always placed  emphasis on the identification of quality buyers from new countries on retaining participation levels from conventional markets. With 10 new nations confirmed to participate this year, our efforts have borne fruit,” KTM Society President, Abraham George said.

3rd India MSME Expo & Summit in Delhi


The MSME Development Forum with Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise (MSME) and Ministry of Commerce (DIPP) ) is organising the ‘3rd India MSME Expo & Summit 2016’ from August 11 to 13, at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi. “The main focus of the expo is to motivate youth and prospective entrepreneurs to start their own enterprise and also educate them on the difference between a start-up and MSME,” informed Rajnish Goenka, National Convenor, BJP Micro & Small Industry Cell.

Gujarat powered by global expo in October


India Power Week, a global expo of Gujarat will be held at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Expo Centre, in Vadodara, from October 6-10, 2016. The Switch Global Expo, being promoted by Government of Gujarat, will have power ministers of over 100 countries in attendance. Chairman of Switch Global Expo, Amit Bhatnagar said that the expo aims to offer one of the biggest business networking opportunities for electrical manufacturers, innovators, technology providers, start-ups and partners.

Business travellers bring in 39,671 bn baht to Thailand


According to the Thailand Convention & Exhibition Bureau (TCEB), in the first half of the 2016 fiscal year,  from October 2015 to March 2016, Thailand welcomed 493,384 business events travellers, earning the Thai economy more than 39,671 billion baht (approximately US$1,116 million). The top five markets during this period were China, India, Singapore, Malaysia, and the United States. India stood tall with the number of MICE travellers, in the last fiscal, at 102,972 paxs. TCEB initiated a International  Familiarisation trip to showcase emerging destinations around Thailand, while highlighting Bangkok and Chiang Rai.
