Lemon Tree Hotels to focus on MICE now

Lemon Tree Hotels will now focus to facilitate MICE service in its properties following  the  booming trend for the sector. Vikramjit Singh, President and Chief Revenue Officer, Lemon Tree Hotels, says, “So far Lemon Tree hotels didn’t focus much on MICE or banqueting facility. But going forward we realise that it’s a big segment which is coming into play. We will be setting up largest convention centre hotel in Gurgaon which will be opened by the end of this year. That will have large banqueting facilities. In Mumbai we are building two hotels close to 1,000 rooms which will also have very large banqueting facilities.”

OCEC to open its doors on Sept 26

The new Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre (OCEC) will open on September 26. “Work is nearing completion for Madinat Al Irfan’s first phase features,” officials from Omran, the Sultanate’s leading master developer, said. OCEC will elevate Oman to become a suitable venue for regional and international events, developing Oman’s MICE sector and business tourism offerings, while attracting local and foreign investors and partners. With an elegant theatre to seat 3,200 delegates or concert goers, the centre will attract international convention and entertainment events.

BRICS Trade Fair from Oct 12-14 in Delhi

BRICS Trade Fair and its business forum, to be held in October 12-14, 2016, in Pragati Maidan in New Delhi, aims to be the most prominent platform for business firms to meet and associate with complementing businesses from the other member countries including Brazil, Russia, China and South Africa. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced BRICS Trade Fair as a special initiative from the country to encourage business connects between companies from the five nations. TCEB unveils digital strategy for MICE app

The Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) unveiled a digital MICE strategy highlighting the ‘Biz Thailand’ mobile application, an information gateway for MICE travellers. Nopparat Maythaveekulchai, TCEB President said, “This year TCEB continues to promote the readiness of Thailand’s MICE industry through a comprehensive Digital MICE marketing strategy, utilising online channels to support the bureau’s key marketing activities.” Through the third edition of the Spice Up Your Business Agenda competition in 2016, TCEB will expand its collaboration with the Tourism Authority of Thailand, Thai Airways International PCL, the Ministry of Commerce’s Department of International Trade Promotion, Thai Smile Airways Limited, and Visa International (Thailand).

TCEB launches TIME 2016 – MICE knowledge exchange

Offering the MICE industry a new platform for knowledge exchange and business negotiations among MICE operators and to support the MI business, the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (Public Organization) TCEB has launched the first Thailand Incentive & Meeting Exchange 2016 programme or TIME 2016. Nopparat Maythaveekulchai, President of TCEB said: “The Business Meetings & Incentives or MI segment of the MICE industry has achieved its target last year in terms of visitor numbers and revenues. Last year, the MICE industry as a whole attracted 1,095,995 visitors, contributing THB 95.9 billion baht (US$2.7 billion) to total MICE industry revenues.”

Thailand MICE industry back to normal post attacks

The Thailand Convention & Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) has issued a statement informing international stakeholders that Thailand’s MICE industry continues to operate as normal, and that all public and private sector stakeholders are working together to monitor the situation. This came as an affirmative statement following recent explosions in public areas in some Thai provinces. All hotels, venues and attractions are open and ready to welcome business travellers. Transportation links, major roads and airports continue to operate, including Bangkok’s BTS Skytrain and MRT services and both Don Muang and Suvarnabhumi International Airports, the statement said.

Qatar gains strong MICE foothold globally: OBG

According to a report by Oxford Business Group (OBG), Qatar has positioned itself strongly in the global map as a destination for meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions with more than 150 business conferences hosted every year. In “The Report: Qatar 2016,” OBG said that Doha has a strong foothold in the global market for MICE, hosting a broad range of international gatherings each year. Among the main offerings in the MICE segment for Qatar is the 40,000 sq m Qatar National Convention Centre, the QR2.3bn ($631mn) Doha Exhibition and Convention Centre in West Bay, and key venues like the Sheraton Grand Doha Resort & Convention Hotel.

9th Kerala Travel Mart to host 57 countries

The ninth edition of Kerala Travel Mart (KTM) will host 57 countries with 10 first-time participants in Kochi from September 27 till 30. The new participants include China, Japan, South Korea, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, Georgia, Chile, Greece, Iran and Botswana. “KTM has always placed  emphasis on the identification of quality buyers from new countries on retaining participation levels from conventional markets. With 10 new nations confirmed to participate this year, our efforts have borne fruit,” KTM Society President, Abraham George said.
