IMWF 2019 witnessed participation of 94 buyers

The stalwarts from the global MiCE and wedding industry came together for fourth International MICE & Wedding Forum (IMWF), which was powered by Inventum Global at Antalya Rixos Premium Belek from May 12-16. The event had around 46 exhibitors and a total of 94 buyers, out of which 54 were from India. Antalya and Turkey were well promoted and highlighted with the IMWF 2019 by the magnificent night at the Ancient Theater of Aspendos as well as the breath-taking nights and events. Being the largest event organised by any institution or organisation with the budget of 2 million Euro until today, IMWF has provided a substantial added value to the promotion and economy of Turkey. The forum, with the participants on CEO level from the premium wedding agencies shaping the world’s wedding sector, particularly India, has substantially contributed for the promotion of Antalya and the global event sector by means of the biggest promotional activity of India and Turkey’s tourism history. IMWF was founded under the partnership of Asil Akar and Bünyat Özpak, organising major groups such as domestic and overseas congresses, conferences and Indian weddings and the event marketing corporation founded under the partnership of Necip Fuat Ersoy.

India among top list of international MiCE travellers to Thailand

According to a report by International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA), India has emerged as second in the list of international MiCE travellers visiting Thailand. Thailand witnessed more than 8 million MiCE travellers generating 54 billion baht in the second quarter of fiscal 2019, informed Chiruit Isarangkun Na Ayuthaya, President of Thailand Convention & Exhibition Bureau (Public Organization) or TCEB. He said that the international MiCE travellers during second fiscal stood at 353,256, up 11%, for 26.7 billion baht in income, up 7%. The key category was corporate meetings. The top five in international MiCE arrivals in the quarter were China, India, Japan, Hong Kong and Indonesia. The strong MiCE business in the quarter of 193 meetings lifted the ranking of Thailand’s MiCE sector to fourth in Asia, up from fifth place last year. Based on the report, Japan, China and South Korea, in that order, led the region’s MiCE business. TCEB is moving on to implement main strategy to penetrate into the ASEAN+6, CLMV and European markets with the revenue goal of 220 billion baht in 2019. In addition, the 2018 report of International Congress and Convention Association indicated that Bangkok ranked no. 2 (with 135 events), Chiang Mai no. 25 (25 events) and Pattaya no. 60 (11 events) of Asia for international conventions on provincial scale. Domestic MICE market has marked the highest growth in Incentives market, both in number and revenue. Traveller growth totaled 18 per cent, whereas the revenue growth registered 180%. MICE Show Asia 2019 to be held in Singapore from Oct 16-18

The three-day business-to-business travel trade show will take place from October 16-18, 2019, at the Sands Expo & Convention Centre at Marina Bay Sands. Co-located with ITB Asia, the show will highlight Asia’s meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions (MICE) sector. Indaba 2019: 1828 Buyers

The South African Tourism annual tourism showcase, Africa’s Travel Indaba, saw a promising conglomeration of some 1828 buyers from 88 countries and over more than 1000 exhibitors at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli Convention Centre in Durban, South Africa, from May 2-4, 2019. The event serves as one of the largest platforms for Africa’s tourism industry to showcase the extensiveness of its products to an international market. Derek Hanekom, Minister, Tourism, Government of South Africa, said, “Africa’s Travel Indaba has become synonymous with storytelling. This continent is teeming with stories and folklore which are woven into all the products and experiences that are showcased here. In 2018, Africa reached 67 million international tourist arrivals, a growth of 7 per cent over 2017. This represents 5 per cent of all global international arrivals, up nearly 14 mn from the low of 2015. On the African continent, we have grown at an average of 8 per cent for three years in a row.” The Minister also shared that UNWTO predicts that 1.8 billion people will be travelling globally by 2030, and that Africa will increase its share from the current 5 to 7 per cent of all global arrivals. While buyers at Indaba include tour operators, online booking companies and DMCs from across the world, the exhibitor profile includes provincial authorities, tour operators, game lodges, luxury products, etc., from as many as 20 African nations. Hyatt to focus on MiCE potential in Kerala, unveils 3 hotels

With an aim to promote Kerala as a destination for MiCE, wedding and leisure travel, Hyatt Hotels group has announced the opening three more hotels in Kerala besides its Grand Hyatt in Kochi. Two of the hotels will be unveiled in Malayattoor near Kochi and in Thrissur this year. The one in Thiruvananthapuram will be opened next year. According to Shrikant Wakharkar, General Manager, Grand Hyatt, Kochi, “All the three will belong to Hyatt Regency category.” He stated that the hotel in Thiruvananthapuram will be the biggest among the three with 200 rooms. The Thrissur hotel will have 77 rooms while the one in Malayattoor will be comparatively small hotel. With one of the largest convention centres in the country, Grand Hyatt, Kochi hosted 250 MiCE events, over 200 weddings and social events in last one year. “The city will see more national and international events and conventions in the coming months,” he added. MiCE tourism in India witnessed 8 per cent growth in 2018: Report

According to a new report compiled by FICCI in collaboration with private lender Yes Bank, India’s rapid emergence as a strong economic player in the global arena has enabled it to pave way for MiCE tourism prospects into the country. In 2018, MiCE tourism in India was pegged at Rs 25,000 crore with 8 per cent growth year-on-year, said the report titled ‘India Inbound Tourism: Unlocking the Opportunity’. The industry is estimated to have a space of 5 lakh square metres, which is expected to cross 15 lakh square metres over the next two to three years. “This will result in doubling the growth rate,” said the report highlighting enormous potential India has due to its strategic location and being a round-the-year destination. The global MiCE tourism is estimated to be growing at a compound annual growth rate of 7.5 per cent and reach 1.2 trillion dollars (about Rs 70 lakh crore) by 2023. Asia Pacific region is expected to lead this with 8.6 per cent growth. India ranks fifth in the Asia Pacific region behind Japan, China, South Korea and Australia. However, it has a variety of destinations which can be clubbed with diverse tourism offerings to enhance MiCE. Consistently among the fastest growing economies in recent years, India has price competitive offerings in addition to 31 international airports, five cruise ports besides one of the largest rail and road network worldwide. However, the country must upgrade infrastructure, have more world-class convention and exhibition centres plus adopt a holistic approach to promote MiCE tourism, the report added.

Penang Convention & Exhibition Bureau (PCEB) has appointed Alfa Destinations Marketing as its representation firm in India to manage travel trade strategy, public relations and industry alignment across both countries. India is proven to be a strong market for Penang and is one of the top five markets for business events in Penang. Over the past year, Penang has received encouraging interest from event planners and conference organisers. In 2017, 13% of Business Events of Asia Pacific origin was from India, contributing RM190 million or USD 46 million. In 2018, Penang’s largest Business Event – V-CON 2018 – which saw a participation of 16,000 delegates from around the world reported that 80% of their delegates were from India. The number of Indian travellers flying in to Penang has also increased in recent years. The Penang Immigration Department reported that for the period between Jan to Nov 2018, 7,250 Indian travellers flew into the Penang International Airport, compared to 6,569 in the same period in 2017. The 10.37% increase came despite there not being direct flights between Penang and India. To further attract the Indian outbound meetings and conference market, PCEB has introduced attractive support packages specially tailored for India. Speaking at the 11th edition of The Great Indian Travel Bazaar (GITB) 2019. D.B. Gupta, Chief Secretary, Government of Rajasthan, said that that State Government and FICCI have already signed an MOU for GITB to be held in Jaipur till the year 2024. He also announced that GITB 2020 will be held on 19, 20 and 21 April. He said that in 2018-2019, as many as 83 development works related to tourism infrastructure have been undertaken. The Union Ministry of Tourism has provided a support of Rs. 448 crores for various tourism products. Dr Jyotsna Suri, Past President, FICCI; Chairperson, FICCI Tourism Committee & CMD, The Lalit Suri Hospitality Group said that a total of 291 foreign trade operators (FTOs) from 47 countries and 260 Indian exhibitors with 300 booths are participating in this colossal bazaar. 11th edition of GITB from April 28-30 in Jaipur

The 11th edition of the Great Indian Travel Bazaar (GITB), India’s leading business networking platform for inbound tourism is slated to take place from April 28-30 in Jaipur. MITT 2019 comes to a close with Russian Deputy PM’s visit

The 26th Moscow International Travel & Tourism Exhibition(Mitt) 2019, was held from 12–14 March 2019 at the Expocentre, Moscow, Russia. It was attended by Olga Golodets, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, and Zarina Doguzova, Head of the Federal Agency for Tourism. The exhibition has been a great success, with 12,191 professionals attending on the first day alone. Exhibitors from more than 54 countries presented new destinations, routes and tourism products ahead of the 2019 season. The honored guests paid particular attention to the Russian Pavilion, where new tourist products from more than five dozen regions of Russia were presented. Exhibiting companies shared their prospects and plans for the future, as well as unique offers for Russian and international tourists with the VIP guests. The visit was organised by Dmitry Zavgorodniy, Director General of MITT organisers ITE Expo, and MITT Exhibition Director Artyom Chernyshov, who shared their plans for the development of the exhibition.
