80 hosted buyers at MeetingPlanners Russia 2018

The 6th edition of MeetingPlanners Russia is set to take place at the InterContinental Moscow Tverskaya, Moscow, from September 10-11. Dozens of hosted buyers and MiCE solution providers from Russia, CIS and Asian countries, will seek an opportunity to network with new business partners and event planners. Some 80 hosted buyers from Russia, CIS and nearby Asian countries, including corporate buyers representing the oil & gas, IT and pharmaceuticals industries, are expected to participate at the event. The two-day MeetingPlanners Russia 2018 forum will include pre-scheduled meetings, keynotes by MiCE industry experts, networking and educational sessions, luncheons and invitation-only receptions. “We’re confident that the time we spend on our thorough selection procedures and communication with the buyers have been paying off in terms of bringing high ROI to all participating convention bureaus, tourism bureaus and MiCE suppliers. Many of the participating suppliers are returning yearly and it is the best feedback we can get as organisers,” said Business Development Director Asya Revina from Europe Congress, organizers of the event.

Korea MICE Expo from June 14-15 at Incheon

The Korea MICE Expo (KME), a suited platform for incentive planners and meeting professionals, will be held on June 14 and 15 in Songdo Convensia, Incheon. The two-day event aims to provide a perfect venue for over 2,000 expected attending MiCE (meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions) industry professionals to engage with 300 exhibiting local service providers, including convention bureaus, unique venues and travel agencies. To foster a business-friendly event, this year’s KME will be in an unconventional format, ditching the usual sit-down gala dinner and forums. “We want this expo to be bigger and meaningful to all the participants. We will make KME 2018 a platform where buyers and suppliers can truly acquire business potentials,” said Chulbeum Park, Director of the Korea Tourism Organisation (KTO) Meetings and Incentives Team. A standing networking party will replace the usual sit-down gala dinner to let guests interact freely. Also, convention bureaus will showcase not only their MiCE expertise but also their local food specialties during the reception. For the first time, the Korea MICE Expo will have a theme “Hallyu meets MICE” offering participants new venues, activities and discussions related to popular South Korean films, dramas and music.  A main highlight of the event includes the Opening Keynote by Soo-Wook Ahn, Executive Director of SM Entertainment, one of the leading entertainment groups in Korea. IEIA Open seminar kicks off in Hyderabad

The eighth edition of Indian Exhibition Industry Association’s (IEIA) open seminar, kicked off at HITEX, Hyderabad and is underway until May 11, 2018. Delegates from 80 countries attend Africa’s Travel Indaba at Durban ICC

More than 6000 representatives from 80 countries around the world converged at Durban’s ICC to attend the biggest travel trade show in Africa, Travel Indaba, which is underway until May 10, 2018. “It’s fair to say that good business concluded at this show can translate into measurable economic growth for the entire continent,” says Sisa Ntshona, CEO, South African Tourism. According to the organisers, the online meetings confirmed for the show between buyers and exhibitors had already exceeded the 2017 numbers two weeks before the opening. In total, more than 1060 exhibitors will be doing business from 22 African countries. “Over 1460 buyers from 69 countries are attending the show. 25th ATM underway, welcomes 2,500 exhibitors from 150 countries

The 25th edition of Arabian Travel Market (ATM) 2018 was inaugurated on April 22, 2018 by His Highness Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai. He was joined by Nick Pilbream, Divisional Director, Reed Travel Exhibitions, and other VIPs who embarked on a tour of the exhibition as the four-day industry showcase got underway. This year’s show, held at Dubai World Trade Centre is underway until April 25, 2018. The show saw a conglomeration of more than 400 main stand holders with representation from over 150 countries. With more than 40,000 visitors expected to attend, ATM 2018 will showcase over 2,500 exhibiting companies and 65 national pavilions. ATM 2018 has adopted Responsible Tourism – including sustainable travel trends – as its main theme and this will be integrated across all show verticals and activities. Arabian Travel Market celebrated its silver jubilee with over 2,500 exhibitors and 40,000 industry professionals from 150 countries. Travel trade professionals from across the world’s hospitality industry will showcase the largest exhibition of regional and global hotel brands, with hotels comprising 20 per cent of the total show area. ATM 2018 will welcome over 2,500 confirmed exhibitors including 65 national pavilions. More than 100 new exhibitors are set to make their ATM debut this year, including Visit Finland, Guizhou Province of China, Hungarian Tourism Agency, Polish Tourist Organisation, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Dubai Municipality Leisure Facilities Department, Yas Experiences, Indigo Airlines, Kurdistan Tourism, Jakarta City Government Tourism and Culture Office and Shanghai Municipal Tourism Administration, to name a few.

10th Great Indian Travel Bazaar witnesses 280 buyers & 270 exhibitors

The 10th edition of Great Indian Travel Bazaar (GITB) opened with 280 foreign buyers from 55 countries and 270 exhibitors at The Lalit Jaipur on April 22 and is underway until April 24. Committed to boost tourism in India, the inbound show was inaugurated by Vasundhara Raje, Chief Minister, Rajasthan; Rashmi Verma, Secretary, Ministry of Tourism; Jyotsna Suri, Chairperson, FICCI Tourism Committee; Dipak Deva, Co-Chairman, FICCI Tourism Committee; Nihal Chand Goel, Additional Chief Secretary (Tourism, Art & Culture), among other officials from the Government of Rajasthan. The show, celebrating a decade of successfully promoting inbound tourism in Rajasthan, hopes to cross the 11,000 mark in terms of pre-scheduled B2B meetings between the exhibitors and buyers. Raje said, “It is heartening to see such an enthusiastic participation at GITB. The tourism sector has seen a new vigour and dynamism after the launch of the campaign ‘Jane Kya dikh Jaye’. Our vision was to get 50 million tourists in Rajasthan by 2020 but by the end of 2017 itself, the state received 47.5 million tourists and we would compete our target by the end of 2018.” Raje also thanked the central government for the financial support provided for the state’s various tourism projects. An MoU was also singed on behalf of the Government of Rajasthan and FICCI under which the GITB will continue to be hosted till 2024. The dates for the next edition of the show in Jaipur are April 28-30, 2019.

Emirates introduces new fully enclosed first-class private suite at ATM

Emirates unveiled its new Boeing 777-300ER First Class Private Suite at the ongoing Arabian Travel Market in Dubai. The airline is also showcasing its latest Boeing 777 Business Class seat, the A380 onboard lounge, along with other products such as the First Class Shower Spa and the latest version of its Economy Class seats. Visitors could experience the Emirates network through an interactive 60 second challenge played on a touchscreen route map. Last year, the airline launched new passenger routes to Newark via Athens, Zagreb and Phnom Penh, and later this year, Emirates will begin services to London Stanstead and Santiago de Chile. This year marks Emirates’ 25th year of partnership and commitment to ATM. When the exhibition first opened its doors in 1993, Emirates flew 15 aircraft to 32 destinations and carried 2 million passengers. The Emirates stand at ATM will offer visitors a chance to experience the airline’s recently-launched products and service enhancements. The game changing, fully enclosed first-class private suites on exhibit have floor to ceiling sliding doors, soft leather seating, high-tech control panels and mood lighting. Incorporating cutting-edge technology, the suites also feature several world-firsts, including ‘virtual windows’ using real-time fibre-optic camera technology, a NASA inspired ‘zero-gravity’ seating position and a personal video-call service.

Great Indian Travel Bazaar in Jaipur from April 22-24

The 10th edition of the Great Indian Travel Bazaar (GITB), which emerged as one of the most important travel marts for inbound tourism, will be held in Jaipur from April 22 to 24, 2018. While the inaugural session will be held at Hotel Lalit on April 22, the pre-structured meetings and exhibition will be held on April 23 and 24 at the Jaipur Exhibition and Convention Center (JECC) in Sitapura, informed Dr Subodh Agarwal, Additional Chief Secretary, Tourism, Art & Culture, Government of Rajasthan. Dr Agarwal said, while Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje will grace the inaugural session as Chief Guest, Union Tourism Minister KJ Alphons will inaugurate the exhibition on April 23. The two-day event will see fruitful networking giving a further boost to the travel trade business in the State, he added. FICCI Past President and Chairperson FICCI Tourism Committee, Dr Jyotsana Suri said that in a span of 10 years, GITB has gone from strength to strength and was now a force to reckon with in the inbound tourism marts.

Global Exhibition on Services from May 15-18 in Mumbai

The fourth Global Exhibition on Services (GES) is set to take place from May 15-18, 2018, at the Bombay Exhibition Centre in Mumbai. A curtain raiser for the event was held in New Delhi at the Shangri-La hotel. Organised by Ministry of External Affairs and Department of Commerce, Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India, GES is meant to promote the services sector including tourism as well as education. This year, the focus is on Northeast India and ASEAN region as it is themed on ‘The Northeast India-ASEAN Opportunity’. Exhibition and event services, and tourism and hospitality are among the 22 sectors that the government aims to focus on through GES.

ICPB to promote India as venue for conferences and exhibitions: K. J. Alphons

The Ministry of Tourism has recognised Meetings, Incentives, Conventions and Exhibitions (MICE) as a niche tourism product in order to overcome the problem of seasonality and to promote India as a 365 days’ destination. The India Convention Promotion Bureau (ICPB) has been set up under the patronage of the Ministry of Tourism to promote India as a venue for International Conferences and Exhibitions. This non-profit organization, with members comprising national airlines, hotels, travel agents, tour operators, tourist transport operators, conference organizers, etc. participate in international MICE trade fairs like IMEX in Frankfurt and Las Vegas, EIBTM- Barcelona and AIME- Melbourne along with the India Tourism overseas offices. India is also being promoted as a preferred MICE destination through the Global Incredible India media campaign and through road shows and seminars conducted by the India Tourism offices overseas. Ministry of Tourism also provides Central Financial Assistance to the State Governments/UT Administrations for development of tourism infrastructure including the setting up of convention centres under the existing schemes.
