Dubai Business Events showcases its offerings at IBTM World 2017

Dubai Business Events, showcased the city’s latest offerings and forthcoming events throughout 2018 at the IBTM World 2017 in Barcelona. The 2017 edition of IBTM World was attended by more than 3,000 exhibitors. Among the latest developments highlighted was the inaugural Dubai Association Conference, organised by the Dubai Association Centre, which is scheduled to take place from December 11-12, 2017, at the Dubai World Trade Centre. Dubai Business Events also promoted the city’s role as the host of the 57th Congress of the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA), which will be held in Dubai from November 11-14,  2018. Dubai Business Events recently received a formal handover from this year’s host city, Prague. Issam Kazim, Chief Executive Officer of Dubai Corporation for Tourism and Commerce Marketing, said: “The business events industry plays a central role in our efforts to continue realising sustainable economic diversification, and events such as IBTM World are a crucial part of that drive. By showcasing the city’s unique business events offerings and exciting attractions to global audiences – in addition to some of our major activities on the horizon – we have had another successful exhibition in Barcelona.”

South Africa to unveil delegate-boosting plan to propel business events


South Africa’s deputy Minister of Tourism, Elizabeth Thabethe has announced a delegate-boosting plan to broaden the variety of tourism products and the country’s business events industry as well. The announcement was made at the recently-held IBTM World 2017. As part of the programme, the SANCB is spearheading a global delegate-boosting campaign, targeting members of the association conferences that are already confirmed to take place in South Africa over the next five years. The South African National Convention Bureau (SANCB), a business unit of South African Tourism emphasised that the country is “open for business and on an accelerated drive to increase our share of the global business events pie.” Thabethe explained that this drive entails bringing more high-value business events delegates to South Africa, aiding economic growth and sustaining much-needed jobs throughout the broader tourism economy. “To help achieve this tourism growth, the South African government has allocated R90m for a bidding support programme to enable South Africa to bid more aggressively for international association conferences, meetings, incentives and exhibitions over the next three years. This grant will give South Africa extra muscle to lobby for and attract big-ticket events,” added Thabethe. According to Thabethe, South Africa hosts about a million business delegates every year and that the local events industry sustains more than 250,000 jobs, directly and indirectly.

Travel Business Show: Engaging discussions on MICE

The 2nd edition of the Travel Business Show inauguration was followed by an engrossing panel discussion on Meetings Incentives Conferences and Events (MICE), moderated by Priti Khanna, Director, DDP Publications. The discussion involved different stakeholders of the MICE industry to share key inputs on experiential MICE. The eminent panelists included Tekla Maira, Director Luxury Sales –India, AccorHotels; Homa Mistry, CEO,  Trail Blazer Tours;  Kiran Thomas, AVP, Administration and Global Travel, Sutherland Global Services and Ismail A Hamid Amer, Regional Director, Egyptian Tourism Counsellor.

2nd edition of the Travel Business Show kicks off in Gurugram

The 2nd edition of the Travel Business Show, an exclusive MICE event, was held from December 2 –3, 2017, at the Le Meridien Gurgaon. The show was inaugurated by Ma. Teresita C. Daza, Ambassador of Philippines to India, who was also the Chief Guest of the evening. Tourism and MICE continues to be a great contributor to the economy of nations, Daza said. “In 2016, the Philippines economy grew by 6.8 per cent, faster than 5.9 per cent expansion in 2015.  In the third quarter of 2017, it grew by 6.9 per cent. Travel and tourism are important contributing factors for the economy. The sector contributed about 8.6 per cent to the country’s GDP in 2016. The top source markets for the Philippines from Asia include China, Japan, South Korea and Taiwan.  Currently, India ranks as the 12th largest source market for the Philippines. Many Indians visit Manila, Cebu, Palawan, Angeles and Boracay,” she informed. Giving an insight in the popularity of the Philippines as a destination for Indians, she added, “In 2016, the record of Indian arrivals in the Philippines was 90,000, which is an average of about 246 Indian passengers per day.  This number of Indian arrivals is very encouraging, despite visa requirements for Indians travelling to the Philippines.” Giving a synopsis of mega MICE events in the Philippines, she said, “Aside from leisure travel, the Philippines has also been witnessing an immense contribution of  the Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Events (MICE) segment into the growth of the Philippines tourism industry. 6th International Tourism Mart in Guwahati


International Tourism Mart (ITM)  shall be held from December 5-7, 2017, in Guwahati, Assam.  The Ministry of Tourism in association with the North Eastern States is set to organise the mart at the Taj Vivanta. The mart will be inaugurated by Jagdish Mukhi, Governor of Assam in the presence of Sarbananda Sonowal, Chief Minister, Assam and K J Alphons, Minister of State (I/C) for Tourism, along with other dignitaries from Central Ministries and North Eastern States. The 6th ITM will focus on India’s ‘Act East Policy’, blossoming ties with ASEAN and the larger East Asia region. Besides deliberations on promotion of tourism in the North East Region, the panel discussions will also lay emphasis on promoting cultural ties, strengthening contact with countries in the ASEAN region and providing enhanced connectivity to the North Eastern states. The ITM 2017 will also see an active participation by the Ministry of DONER to synergise the process of development of tourism in the North East region.

India MICE Awards debuts in Delhi


A first of its kind, India MICE Awards made its debut at The Lalit New Delhi on November 27, 2017. The event honoured the achievers of the Meetings, Incentive, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE) industry. ICCA sees conglomeration of 1264 meeting experts


The 56th Congress of the International Congress and Convention Association – ICCA, held from Novemeber 12-15, in Prague, witnessed a total of 1,264 meeting industry experts from 79 countries. The event was organised by the Prague Convention Bureau with the support of more than 40 local partners. “According to the results of the impact study prepared for us by KPMG, multiplied revenues from the Prague congress industry were between 22 and 26 billion Czech Crowns in 2016. We expect that 15-25 association congresses or conferences could take place in Prague in the span of the next ten years as a result of the 56th ICCA Congress, generating a revenue of 2.1 billion Crowns in multiplication. Of course, this number may be far from final,” said Roman Muška, Director of the Prague Convention Bureau.

Dubai to host ICCA in 2018


Dubai will host the 57th Congress of the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) next year from November 11-14, 2018, at Dubai World Trade Centre. This year’s edition recently concluded in Prague. Dubai was chosen host city for the 57th ICCA Congress in 2014. The bid for the event was led by Dubai Business Events and Dubai World Trade Centre. The congress will see meeting industry professionals from all over the world gather in Dubai to discuss key challenges and opportunities within the business events industry. Issam Kazim, CEO of Dubai Corporation for Tourism and Commerce Marketing, said: “We look forward to welcoming ICCA delegates next year and hosting an event that plays an important role in the development and growth of the business events industry.” Martin Sirk, ICCA CEO, said: “Economies throughout the Gulf and Middle East are going through huge changes to their business models and are diversifying into a wide range of exciting new sectors; association-related meetings activity is bubbling up across trade.” Business events continue to play a key role in achieving Dubai Tourism Vision 2020 and UAE Vision 2021.
