Kolkata, Chennai emerging as optimum cities for MICE facilities

Kolkata and Chennai have emerged as one of the few cities which offer suitable MICE offerings at a reasonable rate. Kolkata’s super-luxury hospitality space will add over 500 rooms in the super-deluxe category in the next three months. Currently , Oberoi Grand, Taj Bengal, ITC Sonar and Hyatt -together offer 917 rooms. The count will go up to 1,231, a 134 per cent jump over the current strength in the next 18 months. Ranju Alex, GM of JW Marriott Kolkata, said, “Kolkata, with its unique character and soul, is a significant addition to the MICE map globally.” Shift of MICE from Mumbai and Hyderabad to Chennai, owing to cheaper room rates, has spurred growth for the city.

PTM 2017 in Macao from Sep 13-15

The 40th edition PATA Travel Mart 2017 will be held in Macao SAR from September 13-15. The mart will be hosted by the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO). IITTM’s 6th Asia-Euro conference in Gwalior

Indian Institute of Tourism and Travel Management, Gwalior, is organising 6th Asia-Euro conference 2016 in Tourism, Hospitality & Gastronomy from November 9-12, 2016, in Gwalior. Conference Chairman and Director, IITTM Prof. Sandeep Kulshreshtha, informed “It is the first time in India that this conference is being organised in collaboration with Taylor’s University, Kuala Lampur, Malaysia and University of Toulouse, Jean Jaures, France. TICA, KMA team up to elevate MICE professionals

The Thailand Incentive and Convention Association (TICA) and the Korea MICE Association (KMA) signed a memorandum of understanding to collaborate on the education and training of MICE professionals and strengthening of business platforms for the development of the MICE industry in South Korea and Thailand. Eung Su Kim, president of the KMA, and Sumate Sudasna, president of TICA, said they would collaborate for the growth of the MICE industry in the two countries with the aim of contributing to their respective economies and the enhancement of international goodwill and cooperation. “This MoU allows both countries to leverage on our knowledge and experience to gain further insights in service excellence on an international level. Business events will continue to have a strong impact for any country, especially among Asia-Pacific countries,” said Kim.

Free UAE visa for TAAI Convention delegates

The Abu Dhabi Tourism & Cultural Authority (TCA) along with the Travel Agents Association of India (TAAI) has offered free UAE visas to registered delegates attending the Indian Travel Congress and 63rd Convention and Exhibition of TAAI being held in Abu Dhabi from October 14-17, 2016. TCA will offer two nights pre- and two nights post-tours to delegates in Abu dhabi/Al Ain/Sadayat Island and Yas island.

Singapore Tourism showcases MICE sector in six-city roadshow in India & Sri Lanka

Singapore Tourism Board organised a 10-day, six-city road show across key markets in India and Colombo in Sri Lanka. Themed “Extending Hands in Partnership”, the delegation was led by GB Srithar, Singapore Tourism Board’s (STB) newly appointed Regional Director for South Asia, Middle East and Africa (SAMEA). The Singapore delegation comprised representatives from top hotels, cruise liners, attractions, airlines and Destination Management Companies (DMCs), which travelled to the cities of Colombo in Sri Lanka and then to the Indian cities of Pune, Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Lucknow and Jalandhar.

Dubai events contribute AED344m to the emirate economy

Dubai Business Events secured 15 per cent more events in the first eight months this year than the whole of 2015, and generated as much as AED344 million from international meetings, conferences, and incentives organisers, according to internal auditing at the city’s official convention bureau. Issam Kazim, Chief Executive Officer of Dubai Corporation for Tourism and Commerce Marketing, said: “Evidence of Dubai’s increasing role in hosting global events can be seen in its strong position in global rankings, which saw the city retain its number 14 position in the 2015 International Meetings Statistics report published by the Union of International Associations.”

IITIS 2016 in Delhi from Sept 21

The Ministry of Tourism have announced the Incredible India Tourism Investor’s Summit 2016 (IITIS) at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, starting on 21 September. Dr. Mahesh Sharma, the  Minister of State for Culture and Tourism, Government of India, said in a statement that the domestic tourism sector is expected to attract investments to the tune of INR 500,000 million from around 600 projects during the three-day investors’ summit.
