ATPI extends its branches with GTS in Saudi Arabia

The ATPI Group has announced its expansion plan, to enhance its global portfolio, with GTS (Global Travel Solutions) in Saudi Arabia. The new partnership follows the appointment of new network partners in countries including Turkey, Poland, Chile, the Balkans and Sweden. J&K to focus on MICE tourism: Farooq Shah

In a crucial meeting, the Secretary Tourism and Floriculture, Jammu and Kashmir, Farooq A Shah along with the ICPB India convention promotion bureau (a body working under the aegis of Ministry of Tourism GOI for promoting MICE Tourism), decided to enable a platform for the state of Jammu and Kashmir to showcase itself as a suited MICE destination. The office bearers of the ICPB assured the Secretary that the state will be promoted as one of the priority venues for conferences and events of national and international standard. Shah showcased the international standard MICE tourism potential of the state particularly in Kashmir like SKICC, Pahalgam club, and places like Gulmarg and Jammu as well. The secretary agreed to organise an intractable evening session specifically for promoting the MICE potential of the state in which leading prominent MICE tourism promoting organisations will be invited to know about the international standard convention and post-convention avenues available in the state. Shah also uprised that Kashmir’s summer is the best in the country to experience leisure activities in the form of shopping, cuisine, sightseeing, rafting among others.

Malayasia to host UFI Asia Pacific Conference 2018

Malaysia will host the 13th UFI Asia Pacific Conference. This was announced by UFI at the 12th UFI Asia Seminar, held in Singapore. The conference will be Malaysia’s second successful time after hosting the event a decade ago in 2009. The seminar is expected to be an opportunity for Malaysia to create business opportunities by attracting global decision makers and leaders of the industry, while increasing awareness in the potential exhibition market. “Hosting the 13th UFI Asia Pacific Conference will be an excellent opportunity for us to promote Malaysia and showcase our country given the accelerated pace of infrastructure developments taking place. The event will also provide a platform for our local industry players to engage and learn from experts in the industry as we discuss growth and challenges that impact the exhibition industry. Business events have been recognised as one of the key contributors towards Malaysia’s Economic Transformation Programme to reach developed nation status by 2020,” said Ho Yoke Ping, General Manager of Business Events, MyCEB (Malaysia Convention & Exhibition Bureau). With an average GDP growth of five per cent, Malaysia is already a fast-emerging economy in the ASEAN region, which has a combined population of 622 million and a GDP of USD 2.31 trillion. The 13th UFI Asia Pacific Conference is expected to generate RM1.8million in economic impact to the country and fully demonstrate the country’s growth potential to become the preferred exhibition platform within South East Asia region.

ICTT 2017 meet from June 8-10 in Kochi

An impressive line-up of technology industry experts from across the globe will attend the upcoming International Conference on Tourism Technology (ICTT) to deliberate on the paramount role of technology in giving a fillip to the travel and tourism industry through interactive engagements with customers and providing excellent products and services. Association of Tourism Trade Organisation (ATTOI), with the support of Kerala Tourism, will organise the three-day event at Le Meridien Hotel in Kochi from June 8 to 10. The seven experts who will be attending the brainstorming meet this year to share their insights are Andre Chow (Singapore), Billy Taylor (New Zealand), Christopher Tock (Malaysia), Donna Mortiz (Australia), Lauren Cleland (USA), Nicky Kriel (the UK) and Pierre Marechal (Belgium).  “Technology is all around us and the world of travel and tourism is no exception. Vizag hosts CII conference

The Confederation of Indian Industry, Andhra Pradesh in association with AP Tourism, Government of AP, recently organised a conference on Destination Vizag ‘A Hidden Paradise of the East’ in Vishakhapatnam. About 25 representatives of destination management companies joined the conference. They were taken for a tour of Buddhist Circuit in Visakhapatnam as well as an Eco Tourism tour to Araku, Anantagiri hill region of Visakhapatnam District.  While addressing the conference Pravin Kumar, IAS Collector Vizag, said that most of the tourist attractions in Visakhapatnam are unexplored, and mentioned that through good promotional initiatives and marketing the city could emerge as major tourist destination in future.  Sreekanth Nagulapalli, IAS, Secretary, Tourism, Go AP, shared tourist attractions in Andhra Pradesh and Government’s tourism policy to promote infrastructure in tourism sector. Dr Subhash Goyal, Chairman, STIC group, said that Vishakhapatnam needs to be marketed well. He suggested to form a joint working group to initiate the discussion Andhra Tourism Mart. Chetan Gupta, General Secretary, ADTOI, suggested for more air connectivity, need for Tourism Information Offices in the micro cities and need for developing package tours. Hari Narayan, IAS, Commissioner, GVMC said that Municipal Administration is working to promote Quality of Life for both citizens and visitors and many projects are being initiated towards Smart City Project.

Float parades at Annual Goa Carnaval from Feb 25-28

Goa Tourism will organise the annual Goa Carnaval from February 25-28, 2017 in Panjim. The state will come alive to celebrate the four-day event with spectacular float parades, Carnaval festivities and an array of events and activities. The float parades will take place in four cities of Panjim, Margao, Vasco and Mapusa. The government has formed various Carnaval committees and drawn up guidelines for smooth conduct of the four-day festivities. In addition to maintaining the traditional and cultural essence of Carnival, this year the focus is weeding out non eco-friendly floats, polluting vehicles and a total crackdown on indecency.

MICE-in-the-bag, also called MICE of cards, a unique concept that brings together buyers and suppliers from the Meetings, Incentives, Conference and Exhibitions (MICE) industries will be held London on March 15, 2017. MICE-in-the-bag is the brainchild of its two founders, Rosy Burnie, member of TM – Institute of Travel & Meetings, GBTA – The Global Business Travel Association, ACTE – Association of Corporate Travel Executives and Ayse Sabbatini, an industry expert. The event is targeted at reducing the prospective marketing spend for MICE suppliers and providing more effective service for buyers. The concept involves the creation of pop-up, one-stop meeting environments for sellers and buyers of MICE. Pre-screened dating, sellers are matched with budget-ready buyers in specific conference and event locations. This offers a significant saving in prospecting costs to the suppliers, putting them in a position to pass on savings to the buyers in more attractively-priced packages. Pinakin mobile app to be launched at Tamil Nadu Tourism Mart in Chennai

Tourism Mart of Tamil Nadu aims to bring together all stakeholders and other government departments with travel agents and other tourism agencies. To be held from May 20-22 in Chennai, the event will launch a mobile app, called pinakin, by the Tamil Nadu Tourism department. The app would provide information on tourism in Tamil Nadu and will have audio facilities. Available in two languages – Tamil and English, the app covers world heritage tourist sites like Mamallapuram, Thanjavur Big Temple, Gangaikonda Cholapuram and Darasuram. The app can be downloaded for free from iStore and Playstore.
