ASEAN Tourism Forum 2018 underway in Chiang Mai

The 37th ASEAN Tourism Forum (ATF 2018) is underway at the Chiang Mai Exhibition and Convention Centre (CMECC), Thailand. Themed as ‘ASEAN-Sustainable Connectivity, Boundless Prosperity’, the forum will be until January 26, 2018. Yuthasak Supasorn, Governor, Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), said: “This year, we are proud to mark the first ATF after commemorating the 50th anniversary of ASEAN in 2017. We are delighted to have participated strongly in the “Visit ASEAN@50” campaign with a series of carefully selected Thai products, tour packages and offers to bring memorable travel experiences.” The week-long event includes meetings of the ASEAN Tourism Ministers and national tourism organisations, private sector groupings representing ASEAN hotels, restaurants, travel agents, tour operators and airlines and bilateral meetings with dialogue partners; such as, Russia, China, Japan, India and South Korea. This year, a ministerial meeting with China will also be held for the first time.

Cruise Club to represent Dubai Business Events

Cruise Club has been appointed as the representative in India for Dubai Business Events, a division of Dubai Tourism and the city’s official convention bureau. Based out of Mumbai, Cruise Club’s role is to increase Dubai’s market share from incentive groups and corporate meetings. The team has already begun delegate boosting activity, promoting upcoming events such as the Lions Clubs International ISAAME Forum, which will take place in December at Dubai World Trade Centre. It was earlier represented by Charson Advisory. Issam Kazim, CEO, Dubai Corporation for Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DCTCM), said, “India remains a top priority for us, now consistently being the largest source market for tourists to Dubai. This is a feat achieved through years of establishing and building strong trade ties in the market, in addition to the execution of a segment-specific approach across India. Renaissance Hotels debuts in Ahmedabad with 29,220 sqft MICE space

Renaissance Hotels, Part of Marriott International, announced the opening of the Renaissance Ahmedabad Hotel in Ahmedabad. This becomes the brand’s third property in India, with two others in Mumbai and Lucknow. Renaissance Ahmedabad Hotel has 155 rooms with six suites, 62 twin rooms, 87 king rooms and 24 inter-connecting rooms. The hotel offers extensive facilities for social events and meetings spread over 29,220 sq ft, of versatile indoor and outdoor spaces. KTM Society’s nine-point charter focuses on making Kerala a sustainable destination

The Kerala Travel Mart (KTM) 2018, to be held in September this year, has already received nearly 600 registrations in just five days after the pre-registration got underway. From the domestic buyers alone, the KTM received 485 applications and 105 registrations from the international buyers. July 28 is the closing date for the registration. Baby Mathew, President of the Kerala Travel Mart Society, said the huge initial response from the buyers is a clear indication of a larger number of tourism stakeholders getting attracted to the stellar tourism gathering over the years. “No doubt, nearly 600 applications in five days is very encouraging. We are expecting a record number of registrations for this year’s edition,” he added. KTM 2018 will be inaugurated in Kochi on September 27, coinciding with the World Tourism Day. The opening ceremony will be followed by three days of business- to- business meetings. The KTM Society has started implementing a comprehensive nine-point charter, ‘Agenda 9,’ which focuses on making Kerala a sustainable destination. It mainly calls for measures to tackle waste management, promote organic farming, efficient use of energy and extensive use of local produce and products. Other key areas which will come up for deliberations are rainwater harvesting, reducing the use of plastics, and improving greenery.

Dubai Business Events reinforces Dubai as hub for events

Dubai is an upcoming and suitable business events hub and Dubai Business Events (DBE), a division of Dubai Corporation for Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DCTCM), ensured it so through inking six Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) throughout 2017, which outlined collaboration with potential entities across a range of key industries. Under the umbrella of DBE’s Al Safeer Ambassador Programme, the MOUs attracted organisation of  international meetings and conferences in Dubai. The convention bureau’s strategic framework enabled coordinating bids for the conferences across multiple stakeholders. The strategy was fully aligned with the UAE Vision 2021 which was aimed to grow the country into a global knowledge hub. Throughout the year, DBE entered agreements with educational, scientific and government bodies, including the Society of Engineers, the Mohammed bin Rashid Space Centre and the British University in Dubai. The emirate’s convention bureau also signed with the Road and Transport Authority (RTA), the Emirates Medical Association (EMA) and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). Issam Kazim, Chief Executive Officer of Dubai Corporation for Tourism and Commerce Marketing, said: “Each and every agreement we enter has significant potential, and is mutually beneficial for all parties involved. In 2014, the Dubai Association Centre was formed as the result of an MOU between Dubai Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Dubai World Trade Centre and ourselves. This has grown very successfully, resulting in the first Dubai Association Conference held in December 2017. FITUR 2018 witnesses 13 per cent surge in international participants

IFEMA kicked off the international schedule of tourism trade fairs with FITUR 2018, one of the greatest business platforms for world tourism in Madrid, Spain from January 17-21,2018, with India as its Partner Country. Like every year, the event allowed agents from the travel and tourism industry to establish the lines of work that will set the programme for the entire year. Many business meetings were held, and contacts and business exchanges were made. The international trade show is said to have generated 260 million euros over its five days. The tourism fair grew by 8 per cent, while the international participation grew by 13 per cent this year.

GPS 2018 underway in Nagpur

The sixth edition of Global Panorama Showcase (GPS) is underway in Nagpur at the Centre Point Hotel. Around 956 registered attendees marked their presence at the inaugural event held on January 15, 2017. The first day saw presentations on products like Eurail by Amigo Travels, cyber security session by Prevoyance Cyberforensic, Genting Cruise Lines, FXkart, Travcare, Singapore Airlines, Sahibji Group, Mazda Travels, Red Tours, etc. A knowledge session was also held on Goods & Services Tax (GST) for the travel industry. GPS Nagpur will host 120 exhibitors for B2B meetings over the next two days.

Delhi to witness Adventure Sports Expo Asia from Jan 27-29

The first ever Adventure Sports Expo Asia is going to be held in New Delhi from January 27-29 at Four Points by Sheraton. Some 15000 visitors and sports enthusiasts are expected to attend the show. Suman Billa, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Tourism, informed that the government has declared 2018 as the Year of Adventure and the ministry is going all out to promote the country as an important hub for adventure tourism. Ajeet Bajaj, Senior Vice President, Adventure Tour Operators Association of India (ATOAI) and the Managing Director of Snow Leopard Adventures, said, “The mission behind the Expo is bringing together all stakeholders to make India an adventure powerhouse while keeping risk management, sustainability and responsible tourism at the forefront. ATOAI is the backbone as far this industry is concerned in India and our aim is to make India a global hub for adventure tourism. Internationally, the adventure sports industry is a $400 billion industry. According to industry estimates, the Indian inbound industry for adventure tourism in growing by 5-7 per cent annually and domestic tourism for this segment is on an upswing, growing by 20-25 per cent annually.” The expo will host many sessions addressing the various issues of the adventure sports industry with luminaries from across the globe. The Karnataka International Travel Expo is scheduled to be held from February 28-March 2, 2018, at the Bangalore International Exhibition Centre (BIEC). This was announced by the state tourism department of Karnataka. The inaugural expo is the largest B2B travel event in India. This event is a suitable platform that will see a conglomeration of over 400 registered buyers and media from over 25 countries. Priyank Kharge, Minister for Tourism, IT & BT, Govt. of Karnataka, said “Karnataka is home to a large and exciting portfolio of globally acclaimed tourism products with UNESCO World Heritage Sites, splendid wildlife and resplendent nature, virgin beaches to adorn. ‘Karnataka International Travel Expo’, being held for the first time, will provide the impetus to the inbound travel and tourism and would enhance the marketing efforts of Karnataka Tourism to promote our destinations to the travel-trade from all over the world”. Maharashtra announces first-ever Mumbai Shopping Festival 2018

Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) in association with the Ministry of Tourism, Government of Maharashtra, is launching the first edition of its annual property, the Mumbai Shopping Festival (MSF). India’s first of its kind citywide three-week festival will be celebrated from January 12-31, 2018, across the city of Mumbai. The festival will include immersive retail experiences clubbed with live performances across the city. In lieu of the recent notification by the Government of Maharashtra where shops and establishments can now stay open 24X7, the Ministry of Tourism and MTDC will set up Mumbai’s first ever Night Bazaar Flea Market which will go on till 4am on weekends only. To enhance visibility of the Mumbai Shopping Festival, MTDC has teamed up with various associations with various retail and commerce bodies including – MCHI – CREDAI, FICCI, FHRAI India, GJEPC India, NAREDCO, Retailers Association Of India (RAI), Indian Bullion & Jewellers Association and the Federation of Retail Traders Welfare Association (FRTWA).
