Broadcast India Show 2017 expects biggest attendance yet

The 27th edition of the annual B2B Broadcast India Show (BIS) will be held from October 12-14, 2017, at Bombay Convention and Exhibition Centre, Goregaon, Mumbai. From content creation to its management and delivery, BIS 2017 presents an entire gamut of products and solutions catering to the entire scale of the broadcast and film industry. Organised by NürnbergMesse India, the expo is showcasing over 600 brands displaying cutting edge technology and solutions. Along with the broad-spectrum event, BIS 2017 will simultaneously facilitate a two-day conference that dives right into the nitty-gritty of content. It will invite CEOs, directors, and proprietors of companies along with engineers, technicians, and technologists to conduct an array of technical presentations, product promotions, and in-depth discussions. Chander Mansharamani to continue as Vice Chairman, ICPB

Chander Mansharamani has been re-elected as Vice Chairman of India Convention Promotion Bureau (ICPB) for another two-year term. Amaresh Tiwari and Girish Kwatra will also continue on their respective posts of Hon. Secretary and Hon. Treasurer. This was declared during the association’s 30th Annual General Meeting and Elections for the Governing Board held at The Ashok in New Delhi, which was also attended by Suman Billa, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Tourism, Government of India and Chairman, ICPB. New appointments were made in the Hotel, Tour Operator and Congress / Convention Centres categories. The two new appointments in the hotel category were Hemant Mediratta and Saurabh Bhargava & Abinash Manghani (due to a tie for the second post). Gunjan Suri and Naveen Chibber took up the two new posts in the travel agency category while Ajay Vinayak and Anuj Wadhwa took the two posts in tour operator category. The post for the Congress / Convention Centres went to Sudeep Sarcar. Talking about the key priorities for the bureau now, Mansharamani, Vice Chairman, ICPB, said, “The government has been looking at us as the frontal organisation for marketing India as a convention destination. Keeping that in mind, we are completely invested to take things to the next level. Currently, we have outlined three core areas to focus on; first is market creation wherein creating our chapters and bidding of international conferences will be a part of that. Market creation will involve conducting roadshows both in India and international markets. TCEB unveils ‘Thailand Connect’ campaign for 2018

Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) unveiled the marketing communication campaign for the year 2018 entitled ‘THAILAND CONNECT Your Vibrant Journey to Business Success, decoded with chapters of possibilities’. The campaign is aimed at further enhancing a position of Thailand as leading bleisure destination in the region. The bureau expects that, by the end of next year, the country will welcome 1,192,000 international MICE visitors which generate revenue of 112 billion baht. Supawan Teerarat, Vice President of TCEB’s Strategic and Business Development, said, “TCEB has been introducing key fundamental pillars of MICE industry which include a diversity of destination, business opportunities, and people of Thailand. These strengths are well positioning Thailand as a leading destination for bleisure activities in the region.” TCEB’s campaign was launched at the 25th Incentive Travel & Convention, Meetings Asia (IT&CMA), and the 20th Corporate Travel World Asia-Pacific (CTW Asia-Pacific). The IT&CM Asia is recognised as the leading international MICE event centered in Asia-Pacific. “The marketing campaign is aimed at raising the industry profile and visits. International events which will be held in Thailand in the coming years include: the 2018 MDRT Experience and Global Conference during 1-8 February; Bangkok Entertainment Fest during March-June; Sport Accord Convention 2018 during 15-20 April; ASEAN Sustainable Energy Week 2018  during 6-9 June; ProPak Asia 2018 during 13-16 June;  the 45th International Council for Traditional Music (ICTM 2019) during 7-14 July; the 31st Congress of Asia-Pacific Association of Cataract & Refractive Surgeon (APACRS 2018) during 19-21 July; Beyond Beauty Asean Bangkok 2018 during 20-22 September; and Metalex 2018 during 21-24 November,” Teerarat concluded.

BIEC accredited with ‘Gold’ rating from Green Building Councils

The newly constructed Hall 4 at the Bangalore International Exhibition Centre (BIEC) has been honoured with Gold ratings by both Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) under its New Building rating system and US Green Building Council (USGBC) under its Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) rating level. IGBC rating programme covers methodologies to cover diverse climatic zones and changing lifestyles. LEED certification is an official recognition that a project complies with the requirements prescribed within the LEED rating systems as created and maintained by USGBC. It is an internationally accepted benchmark for design, construction and operation of green buildings. FHRAI’s Annual Convention underway at the Garden City

The 52nd FHRAI Annual Convention is underway at Shangri-La Hotel, Bengaluru. At the three-day event, being held between September 14 and 16, delegates will get a chance to attend panel discussions on relevant topics and be able to network with fellow hoteliers. The theme chosen for this year’s convention is “Hospitality 2025 – The Future is NOW”. The inauguration ceremony was presided over by Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, who blessed the function. 3rd OTOAI Convention underway in Ras Al Khaimah

The third Annual Convention of Outbound Tour Operators Association of India (OTOAI) is underway in Ras Al Khaimah. The Convention was inaugurated by Shaji Thomas, Director-Destination Tourism Development, Ras Al Khaimah; Guldeep Singh Sahni, President, OTOAI; Riaz Munshi, Convention Chairman and Vice President, OTOAI; Mohamed Khater, Senior Tourism Development Manager, Government of Ras Al Khaimah; Gurdeep Gujral, Joint Secretary, OTOAI; SanJeet, India Representative, Ras Al Khaimah, and Mahendra Vakharia, Chairman-Western Chapter, OTOAI. Thomas informed that India is the fourth largest source market for Ras Al Khaimah with Germany being the largest followed by UK and Russia. “India is a very important market for us. Earlier Indians used to stay 1.9 nights in RAK but now they stay for 2.25 nights which means they have explored more things to do at the destination. We have become a popular destination for weddings. This year we have 17 Indian boutique weddings and we hope to increase this number steadily.”

EEMA celebrated its 10th Conclave in Delhi

Event and Entertainment Management Association (EEMA) celebrated its 10th edition conclave from September 8-10,  in Hotel Pullman, Aerocity, New Delhi. Themed ‘a decade of transformation’, it was a part of the EEMAX Global Conclave and Awards organised by EEMA. Sabbas Joseph, President, EEMA, elucidated on the event and said, “It was an event that got everyone together. Sharing the journey with nostalgia were the three presidents of EEMA. We had around 283 registered members and an attendance of about 350 people.” Adding on about growing number of talent in the country, he said, “We have a programme for youth empowerment and education and talent development, the first launch of it was on September 8, at the EEMA Eduposium. We are now looking at management programmes, how can we embellish that with content from the event management companies and create event management as an option. It is something that we believe in, along with the vision of the Prime Minister of India. If we can help, skill development, and retain talent, we will become great employers to showcase the real talent in the country.”

33rd IATO Convention underway in Bhubaneswar

The 33rd IATO Annual Convention was inaugurated by a high-level government delegation at Mayfair Convention Centre, Bhubaneswar, Odisha, on September 7, 2017. Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik along with Union Minister of State (I/C) for Tourism, Alphons Kannanthanam, Odisha’s Minister of Tourism and Culture Ashok Chandra Panda and Tourism Secretary Rashmi Verma were present during the inauguration. They announced that the 34th IATO convention will be held in Vishakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. The Tourism Secretary spoke about the new campaign that the Government of India will announce soon. Called ‘Adopt a Heritage’ the campaign is aimed at the corporate and private sector to adopt a heritage monument in association with ASI. The convention is underway until September 9, 2017.

TAFI convention to be held in two destinations in Turkey

In a first for any travel trade association, the Travel Agents Federation of India (TAFI) will conduct its annual convention in two different places in Turkey this year. One part of the convention will be held in Dalaman and the other one in Antalya. The convention, which is to be held from Oct 27-31, 2017, has been split between two destinations so as to enhance the members’ experience of Turkey.

Dusit International opens Global Sales Office in India

Dusit International, Thailand’s hotel and property development company, has opened a new Global Sales Office (GSO) in Mumbai, to promote Dusit Hotels & Resorts in India. The new office will manage sales across all market segments including leisure, MICE and corporate business. Primarily, the team will focus on Tier I cities such as New Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru but will also cover smaller cities. Keshwar Bhagat, Director of Sales – GSO India, will head the India office. Lim Boon Kwee, Chief Operating Officer, Dusit International, says, “With the volume of outbound travel increasing by about 25 per cent a year, India is now one of the fastest growing outbound travel markets in the world. When you consider that the World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) has predicted the number of outbound Indian travellers will reach 50 million by 2020, now is the perfect time for us to open a GSO in the country. This comes in tandem with our own growth, which will see our current tally of 29 hotels and resorts top 80 worldwide within the next three-to-four years.”
