IATO Convention 2018 from September 6-9 in Vizag

The Indian Association of Tour Operators (IATO) is set to hold its annual convention in Visakhapatnam from September 6-9, 2018. The venue of the convention is Hotel Novotel Visakhapatnam Varun Beach. IATO announced its convention almost a year in advance and declared Andhra Pradesh as the host state for the 2018 convention, just when they had announced the 2017 convention in Odisha.

Leela to manage Gandhinagar’s convention and exhibition centre from April 1

Talking about the plans of The Leela Group of Hotels, Aejaz Shaikh, General Manager, Leisure, Leela Palaces Hotels and Resorts said, “We have nine hotels in India now, out of which six are business hotels in prominent destinations. We are looking at a huge expansion spree, from April 1, we are taking over the management of Mahatma Gandhi convention and exhibition center, that is Mahatma Mandir in Gandhinagar.  It is the Prime ministers pet project there. Right now, we are handling only the convention centre, but in a year and a half we have a 300 + rooms hotel also coming up, which will tentatively be operational by 2019. We have another property in Jaipur that should be operational by next year. Another hotel is coming up in Bengaluru too and Agra is also on the cards.”

AccorHotels Showcase 2018 witnesses over 1200 delegates

The AccorHotels Showcase witnessed participation from 35 hotels and resorts from the global network along with 22 hotels from India. The daylong event held in Mumbai on March 21 and Delhi on  March  23, was packed with networking sessions where customers discovered the group’s newest offerings and met with hotel representatives from across the region. The Showcase was the ideal platform to discuss how to work together to benefit from the burgeoning travel market. Over 1200 delegates represented India’s top-most travel agents, wholesalers, corporate clients, tourism partners and MiCE organisers in attendance, this was the largest-ever AccorHotels Showcase event in Asia Pacific. One of the key takeaways from the Showcase was that MICE is on the rise globally – with multiple events being held internationally, but also in India which is becoming a chosen destination for MiCE. Furthermore, with increasing globalisation and Indian corporates opening offices around the world, the hospitality industry has seen traction for corporate travel both inbound and outbound. Outbound and inbound travel from and to India has been on the rise. As per research reports, in 2017, Indian travellers took three leisure trips and two in five Indians took international trips. MiCE industry to be valued $1245 bn in 2023: Study

The meetings and events industry is projected to reach $1245 billion in 2023, registering a CAGR of 7.5 per cent growth from 2017 to 2023, states a new report published by Allied Market Research, titled, ‘MiCE Industry by Event Type: Global Opportunity Analysis and Industry Forecast, 2017-2023’. According to the report,  the global MiCE industry was valued at $752 billion in 2016. This growth is seen to emerge from rapid globalisation and expansion of service industries, and evolution of scientific and technological innovations. The meetings segment dominated the global MiCE industry in 2016, due to the growth of the travel and tourism industry, increase in international business travels, and rise in government initiatives for the development of MICE segment & SME sector. Recent trends of organising hybrid meetings, and use of social media and meeting apps are  expected to the boost market growth in the near future. Asia-Pacific is expected to witness the highest growth rate of 8.6 per cent during the forecast period. This region is significantly driven by emerging countries such as Singapore, China, and India. Moreover, ease of visa restrictions, investments in better infrastructure, and high demand in commercial aviation further fuel the growth of the Asia-Pacific MiCE industry. The report also stated that in 2016, Europe dominated the global market with more than 42 per cent market share, in terms of value.

S. Korea to unveil new offerings for business events

South Korea is set to introduce two new projects showcasing it as a suited destination for conferences and meetings at the Asia-Pacific Meetings and Incentives Expo (AIME) from February 20-21. “We invite all AIME attendees to visit the Korea Pavilion and join us as we unravel to the international community our ever-growing range of valuable programmes created to ensure outstanding meeting experiences in South Korea,” said Min Hong Min, KTO Executive Vice President for International Tourism. Earlier this year, South Korea did a soft launch of its MICE Ambassadors. Twelve outstanding individuals from various fields, such as healthcare and engineering, were selected to serve as front-runners in securing international business events to Korea and leverage their achievements and networks to raise the status of South Korea as a meetings destination. In addition, South Korea also rolled out its new MICE brand ‘Korea Unique Venues’ introducing twenty world-class meeting venues. These venues are a result of close collaborations with local convention bureaus and suppliers, where the South Korea MICE Bureau evaluated recommended sites and filtered them according to their characteristics, usability, and willingness to open the place for business events. According to the UIA Global Statistics, South Korea was the most sought destination for business events in 2016 with a total of 997 international meetings hosted.
