Emirates introduces new fully enclosed first-class private suite at ATM

Emirates unveiled its new Boeing 777-300ER First Class Private Suite at the ongoing Arabian Travel Market in Dubai. The airline is also showcasing its latest Boeing 777 Business Class seat, the A380 onboard lounge, along with other products such as the First Class Shower Spa and the latest version of its Economy Class seats. Visitors could experience the Emirates network through an interactive 60 second challenge played on a touchscreen route map. Last year, the airline launched new passenger routes to Newark via Athens, Zagreb and Phnom Penh, and later this year, Emirates will begin services to London Stanstead and Santiago de Chile. This year marks Emirates’ 25th year of partnership and commitment to ATM. When the exhibition first opened its doors in 1993, Emirates flew 15 aircraft to 32 destinations and carried 2 million passengers. The Emirates stand at ATM will offer visitors a chance to experience the airline’s recently-launched products and service enhancements. The game changing, fully enclosed first-class private suites on exhibit have floor to ceiling sliding doors, soft leather seating, high-tech control panels and mood lighting. Incorporating cutting-edge technology, the suites also feature several world-firsts, including ‘virtual windows’ using real-time fibre-optic camera technology, a NASA inspired ‘zero-gravity’ seating position and a personal video-call service.

flydubai launches direct flights from Dubai to Dubrovnik

flydubai will now operate Dubrovnik as a seasonal summer route, offering four flights a week between April 10 and October 25, 2018. Emirates will codeshare on this route as part of the Emirates-flydubai partnership announced in July 2017. Jeyhun Efendi, Senior Vice President Commercial Operations (UAE, Middle East, Europe & CIS) at flydubai, says, “flydubai is the first airline to offer passengers convenient, direct flights from Dubai to Dubrovnik. Our new service reflects flydubai’s commitment to open up 71 previously underserved markets on our network of more than 90 destinations. We offer affordable travel options in both Business and Economy classes together with an enjoyable experience on board our young fleet of Boeing 737 aircraft.” flydubai’s first flight touched down in Dubrovnik with a delegation of representatives from the airline on board. The delegation was met by the State Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism, Tonči Glavina; the Managing Director of Dubrovnik Airport, Frano Luetić; the airline’s representative in Croatia, Predrag Popovic and the Country Manager, Austria and Croatia for Emirates, Martin Gross. On arrival, the inaugural flight was met with a traditional water cannon salute.

flydubai launches Dubai-Kraków direct

flydubai has launched its daily service to Kraków, becoming the first UAE carrier to offer direct flights from Dubai. The inaugural flight from Terminal 2, Dubai International, landed at John Paul II Kraków Airport on April 8, and was greeted by a water cannon salute. The flight was piloted by a Polish Captain and First Officer, and on board were Polish cabin crew members. The delegation was led by Jeyhun Efendi, Senior Vice President, Commercial Operations (UAE, Middle East, Europe & CIS), flydubai. HE Robert Rostek, the Polish Ambassador to the UAE and Thierry Aucoc, Senior Vice President, Commercial (Europe & Russian Federation) at Emirates, joined the delegation. On arrival in Kraków, the delegation was greeted by the UAE Ambassador to Poland, HE Dr. Yousif Eissa AlSabri; Radosław Włoszek, President of the Kraków Airport Board and Paweł Galiak, Aviation and Commercial Services Director at Kraków Airport. Speaking at the occasion, Efendi said, “As the first carrier to operate daily direct flights from Dubai to Kraków we are excited about the opportunities that this new route will provide for trade and tourism between the UAE and Poland. This route will be served by the newest aircraft in our fleet, the Boeing 737 MAX 8, which offers our passengers an exceptional travel experience. 56 new airports to be functional in the next few years: Suresh Prabhu

Around 56 new airports will become functional in the next few years, Union Minister for Commerce & Industry and Civil Aviation, Suresh Prabhu said at the two-day Global Logistics Summit recently held in New Delhi. The minister further said that by bringing all the stakeholders together, it will create the right platform to improve logistics and connectivity which are vital for increasing intra-state and international trade flows. Indian logistics industry is estimated at around US $ 215 billion in 2019-20, growing at over 10 per cent annually. In the last decade or so, significant improvements in railways, roads, highways, inland waterways, aviation, ports and coastal shipping have taken place. To support awareness building and develop better understanding on these issues, the Department of Commerce, Ministry of Commerce & Industry, in partnership with FICCI and the World Bank Group, organised the Summit to discuss relevant issues among global experts, academics, government officials, private sector and industry representatives.

Singapore Airlines unveils new regional cabin products for B787-10

Singapore Airlines (SIA) has launched the next generation of regional cabin products for its new Boeing 787-10 fleet, which will redefine travel on flights up to eight hours. The new cabin products feature fully-flat beds and direct aisle access for all Business Class customers, ergonomically-designed contour backrests with six-way adjustable headrests in Economy Class, and personalised in-flight entertainment (IFE) experience for all customers through myKrisWorld. The new 787-10s are configured with 337 seats in two classes, featuring 36 Business Class seats and 301 Economy Class seats.

Ethiopian Airlines to increase capacity in India operation

Ethiopian Airlines has announced that effective March 25 and until October 26, 2018, it will increase capacity in its India operation by deploying the ultra-modern B777 aircraft on its twice daily operation to/from Mumbai and 767-200 aircraft on its twice daily operation to/from New Delhi. Both the B777 and 767-200 aircrafts will have flat beds in business class. Regional Director India Sub Continent, Ethiopian Airlines, Tadesse Tilahun, remarked, “As part of our strategy to expand in India, we have been increasing frequency and upgrading aircraft in the past few years to accommodate the growing demand to Africa. As a customer focused airline, we have the passenger’s comfort level in mind at all times with a view to continuously enhance our customers‘ travel experience and meet their growing expectations.” With the availability of additional seats on this leg, Ethiopian airlines have introduced heavily discounted fares to Nairobi, Uganda, Tel Aviv, Tanzania, Rwanda, Khartoum, Entebbe, USA, Europe and several other destinations. Garuda Indonesia to connect Denpasar-Mumbai from April 23

Garuda Indonesia, the national carrier of Indonesia, will now serve Denpasar – Mumbai direct flight starting April 23. This new route will offer a variety of connection flights to Indonesia for Indian tourists as the airline has served Jakarta – Mumbai route since 2016. Director of Cargo of Garuda Indonesia, Sigit Muhartono who also in charge for international routes said that the opening of Denpasar – Mumbai route is part of Garuda Indonesia’s international network development program particularly in the South Asia region as the number of Indians visiting Indonesia is projected to grow to 500,000 in four years compared with 262,000 in 2015, according to Indonesia’s Ministry of Tourism. “This new service is also facilitating the Indonesia Ministry of Tourism’s program to increase the number of tourist visitor to Indonesia, especially India. To support the joint synergies of both countries, Indonesia and India, Garuda Indonesia continues to strive to maximise the base connectivity between the two countries that is expected to further strengthen bilateral relations between Indonesia and India through increasing economy and business activities, tourism and socio-culture – considering that Bali has similarities in cultural and religious background that make Indians feel comfortable during their visit to Bali. With the fact that India is the second populous country in the world and Mumbai is the most populous city in India, we believe that Mumbai is a new potential market for us,” Muhartono said. Etihad Airways and SWISS ink codeshare agreement

Etihad Airways and Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS) have launched a new codeshare partnership. Under the agreement, Etihad Airways will have its EY flight code on SWISS services between Geneva and Zurich. SWISS will market its LX code on Etihad Airways’ services between Zurich and Abu Dhabi, offering its passengers codeshare flights to and from the UAE’s capital city. The codeshare services are bookable now, for travel from March 26, 2018. Peter Baumgartner, Etihad Airways Chief Executive Officer, said: “This codeshare deepens Etihad Airways’ commitment to the Swiss travel market and Switzerland, a key destination for travellers from our UAE home, neighbouring Gulf countries, and across our Asia Pacific network. The partnership further strengthens the historic cultural, business and tourism ties that the UAE and Switzerland have enjoyed over many decades.” The new agreement is part of the codeshare cooperation which began in 2016 between the Lufthansa Group, of which Swiss is part, and Etihad Aviation Group.

Vietjet to launch Saigon-New Delhi services

Vietjet has unveiled plans to launch direct flights between Ho Chi Minh (Saigon) and New Delhi. The airline is set to introduce four flights per week in the third quarter of 2018 to serve travel demands of the two countries and contribute to the region’s integration and trade exchange. The introduction of the new route will present Vietjet with an opportunity to not only tap into the growing tourism market but also facilitate trade integration and exchange between Vietnam and India.

SriLankan Airlines reduces agents’ commission from 5% to 2%

In line with major airlines reducing agents’ commission on airline ticket bookings, SriLankan Airlines too has followed suit. According to a statement released by the airline, from April 1, 2018, SriLankan Airlines will reduce its commission to 2 per cent from the earlier 5 per cent applicable to any/all tickets issued in India and move given to IATA agents. All tickets issued prior to April 1, 2018 will be eligible to avail 5 per cent commission. When asked about the details on the same, Chinthaka Weerasinghe, Manager—Northern India, SriLankan Airlines, said, “We are awaiting further clarification from the Head Office. The trade partners will be kept abreast about any further development in this announcement.”
