Radisson Jodhpur launches with 30,000 sqft MICE space


Radisson Jodhpur opened its doors to the magnificent city of Jodhpur with 96 rooms. The hotel is the first Radisson to open in the city. Spread over around 70,000 square feet, the hotel boasts over 30,000 square feet of total meeting space comprising three banquet halls. It also features a state-of-the-art fitness centre with modern equipment and a spa service with two treatment rooms. Delta rolls out RFID tags for Heathrow travellers


Delta’s focus on innovation has moved up a gear with the roll out of a new service which allows customers to keep track of their checked bags on its flights between London Heathrow to the United States via their mobile phones. Radio Frequency Identification bag tags are added to all checked luggage enabling customers to receive real-time updates on the whereabouts of their luggage from check-in to the arrival carousel. The tags are read by RFID antennas at various points along the journey and customers receive push notifications via their phones on the Fly Delta app, setting new standards for what customers can expect when they travel with Delta. “Carrying more than 1.3 million bags between London Heathrow and the United States each year, our new service gives customers peace of mind because they know we’re looking after their bags every step of the way,” said Corneel Koster, Delta Senior Vice President, Europe, Middle East, Africa, and India. “Following a successful roll-out in the US, we are on track to equip all of our international stations, including Heathrow, with this technology as part of our continued efforts to improve our customer experience.” Initial results of RFID-tagged items show they are tracked at a 99.9 percent success rate, ensuring proper routing and loading. Cathay Pacific introduces yoga on flight

Cathay Pacific has partnered with Pure Yoga to launch a new inflight well-being programme, ‘Travel Well with Yoga’, this month. In harmony with the airline’s ‘Life Well Travelled’ campaign, the series of videos have been developed by esteemed Pure Yoga instructors to help passengers ease into their journeys with yoga and meditation exercises and tips. Passengers can now view ‘Travel Well with Yoga’ in English, Cantonese, Mandarin and Japanese across all Cathay Pacific and Cathay Dragon routes by accessing the Lifestyle section on their inflight entertainment screens. Split into six easy-to-follow videos featuring founding teacher Patrick Creelman and senior instructor & co-founder Almen Wong, the series demonstrates yoga and meditation routines that can be done before, during or after a flight. Exercises are designed to improve circulation, enhance joint mobility and relax the mind for a comfortable and restful journey. Simon Cuthbert, Cathay Pacific Entertainment, Platforms and Connectivity Manager, said: “The need to get up, move and get your blood pumping is important during a flight. Yoga is an innovative way to do this. Air India Express expands to Vijayawada from Mumbai


Air India’s international budget carrier, Air India Express (AIE) expanded its wings to Vijayawada International Airport, with the introduction of non-stop connectivity to Mumbai. The services on Mumbai–Vijayawada sector commenced on January 19, 2018. The Mumbai service will be available thrice a week, on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. The flight will depart from Mumbai at 8am and arrive in Vijayawada at 9.45 am. In the return direction, the flight departs from Vijayawada at 10.30 am and will arrive at Mumbai at 12:10 pm. Air India already connects Vijayawada to Delhi, Hyderabad, Chennai and Bengaluru. With the new service the city of Vijayawada is now being connected to major metros in the country. Air India Express, is a wholly owned subsidiary of Air India Limited, Head- Quartered at Kochi, Kerala. It has a fleet of 23 Boeing 737-800 NG aircraft, six of which are brand new having joined the fleet recently. These new aircraft are equipped to carry more and come with lighter seats and higher performance capabilities. Though the airline follows the market principles of a low-cost carrier, Air India Express offers complimentary tea, coffee and meals on board as its USP, said AIE in a statement.

Saudi Arabian Airlines increases frequency to Delhi


Saudia, or Saudi Arabian Airlines has increased its frequency from 12 to 14 flights a week to Delhi with a new aircraft to serve the Indian skies. “Now we are flying with the new A-330, our new regional aircraft, which is very good with flatbeds on its business class,” said Ibrahim Mohammed Alqubbi, Manager, Saudia—India. The airline has opened a new office in Delhi which would offer ticketing and back-end services. Alqubbi along with Dr. Saud Mohammed Alsati, Ambassador of Saudi Arabia to India inaugurated the new facility of the airline. Further, Alqubbi informed, “The new office will give a new brand image of Saudi Arabia Airlines in India and offer more space as well as greater support to our customers in India. In India, we opened a new destination recently from October 1, 2017. We are planning to open more destinations in 2018 depending on the bilateral.”

Ural Airlines to start flights between India and Russia

The potential of the outbound tourist market from India to Russia has prompted Ural Airlines to start flights from various cities in India via Yekaterinburg to Moscow, St. Petersburg, and to the other cities in Russia along with offering connections to other prime destinations in Europe. As per the Russian Information Centre (RIC) tourists from India to Russia have been growing at 30 per cent YoY. Considering the unique needs of the Indian tourists and to cater to their specific needs, Ural Airlines is considering to join the ‘India-Friendly’ programme in Russia, which is initiated and executed by RIC in India. Airports of Regions & Russian Information Center in India are assisting the process of launch of services in India by helping identify partners and other associates that will contribute to the entry of Ural Airlines into the India market. Ural Airlines is the primary airline of Airport Koltsovo in Yekaterinburg and one of the largest rapidly developing Russian airlines.

Turkish Airlines signs MoU with Airbus for A350


Turkish Airlines and Airbus have signed an MoU to acquire 20+5 optional A350-900 aircraft. The agreement was signed at the Élysée Palace, Paris, during Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s official visit to France with French President Emmanuel Macron. “With Turkish Airlines serving more destinations than any other airline around the world, we will be delighted to rely on our new A350 XWB to further develop our major international routes from Turkey.” said M. İlker Aycı, Chairman of the Board and the Executive Committee, Turkish Airlines. Aycı went on to say, “This agreement is set to play a key role in our growing business in the years to come as the increased business volume for the local Turkish supplier industry by Airbus will be a great gain for the sector.” The A350 XWB is an all new family of mid-size wide-body long-haul airliners shaping the future of air travel. W Hotels to debut in Osaka in 2021 with 400-sqm MICE space

Owned by Sekisui House, a long-standing partner of Marriott International, this opening will be the first-ever W in Japan. Malaysia Airlines joins hands with Penang Convention and Exhibition Bureau to enhance MICE

Malaysia Airlines Bhd (MAB) has inked a strategic partnership agreement with the Penang Convention and Exhibition Bureau (PCEB) to elevate the MICE industry of Malaysia. Yeoh Hock Thye, MAB Head of Sales, said “Through this strategic partnership, we will drive the traffic from our global network to Malaysia, especially into Penang and putting forward our MICE offering.” Currently, MAB flies 45 times weekly into Penang and is able to carry about 7,200 visitors per week. Penang Chief Minister, Lim Guan Eng stated that the business events segment was seeing a surge in the economic sector in Penang, contributing RM808 million to the economy in 2016. “Penang hosted 1,251 events in 2016 and for the first three quarters of last year, the state played host to 1,731 events with an estimated economic impact of RM900 million,” he added.
