TCEB to host ASEAN conference with UNWTO on MICE

The Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau or TCEB will host the ASEAN Conference on MICE in Collaboration with UNWTO to enable a dialogue for leveraging knowledge and policy exchange, and driving regional ties towards the mutually beneficial goal of accommodating MICE travellers from around the globe. Nopparat Maythaveekulchai, President of TCEB said, “The ASEAN Conference on MICE in Collaboration with UNWTO is being held as part of the ASEAN strategy to provide a platform to help raise awareness and showcase the important role the MICE industry plays in the region among ASEAN leaders, especially to improve the quality and standard of infrastructure and facilities to accommodate the needs of MICE travellers from around the globe, right here in Southeast Asia. Additionally, the activity, which will draw more than 270 delegates from public and private organisations as well as MICE operators from across the region, will help promote Thailand as a high quality MICE destination in ASEAN.”

Singapore Tourism showcases MICE sector in six-city roadshow in India & Sri Lanka

Singapore Tourism Board organised a 10-day, six-city road show across key markets in India and Colombo in Sri Lanka. Themed “Extending Hands in Partnership”, the delegation was led by GB Srithar, Singapore Tourism Board’s (STB) newly appointed Regional Director for South Asia, Middle East and Africa (SAMEA). The Singapore delegation comprised representatives from top hotels, cruise liners, attractions, airlines and Destination Management Companies (DMCs), which travelled to the cities of Colombo in Sri Lanka and then to the Indian cities of Pune, Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Lucknow and Jalandhar.

51st FHRAI Annual Convention kicks off with promising prospects for industry

The 51st FHRAI Annual Convention kicked off at the Amber Convention Centre in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. The event was inaugurated by Vishvas Sarang, Minister (I/C) for Cooperation, Bhopal Gas Tragedy Relief & Rehabilitation, Panchayat & Rural development, Malini Laxman Singh Gaur, Mayor of Indore; Vivek Nair, Chairman, Convention Organising Committee, FHRAI and Bharat Malkani, President, FHRAI. Welcoming all participants at the convention, Nair said that there is a need to create infrastructure to boost tourism in the country. He also said that GST should be re-looked at a reasonable limit. Malkhani noted that FHRAI completed six decades of existence and the focus of the organisation is on skill development. The association has instituted a study with the national green tribunal to bring out a book to run properties in a sustainable manner, which will be given to its members free of cost.

Indore convention to be path breaking: Bharat Malkhani

The Federation of Hotel and Restaurant Associations of India (FHRAI) President Bharat Malkani has revealed the core objective of the 51st Annual Convention, held between September 22-24, 2016, on ‘Brand India’ and the importance of Indore as a city exposing the avenues for the same. Malkani, President, FHRAI  says, “Our convention in Indore is going to be a path breaker, we are first of all holding it in a city which has never held a convention before this, conventions always happen in Delhi Mumbai, sometime in Chennai sometimes in Bangalore. Going to Indore is a strategic decision as we want to expose the heart of India to our industry. Indore is the centre of the country. Our convention theme is ‘Brand India’ and it is the core of our approach as our idea is to take the smallest of the hoteliers to the largest they have in one platform.”  The present projection expects 10 million tourists to visit India by the year 2020. This can only be achieved if 180,000 guestrooms are added at an estimated cost of Rs. 200,000 crores to the existing supply of 120,000 guestrooms in all the classified categories from 1-star to 5-star.

600 Indian delegates to conglomerate for TAAI

The Travel Agents Association of India’s (TAAI) 63rd convention in Abu Dhabi from October 14-16, 2016 is likely to get about 600-700 delegates from across India. Jay Bhatia, National Treasurer and Chairman (Tourism Council), TAAI, while adding said, “We are also expecting our overseas members to participate that include DMCs and operators from the UAE and the Middle East region. ” He informed that Abu Dabi was chosen for the convention because of its proximity to India and good connections from most major cities of India.

NRAI convention from Sept 25-26 in Mumbai

The National Restaurant Association of India (NRAI) announced the first edition of its convention at St. Regis in Mumbai from September 25-26, 2016. Riyaaz Amlani, President, NRAI, said, “The two-day business convention will have multiple business sessions with speakers from the sector from across India. This will include three international speakers as well.” Attendees at the event will include individuals from the bar and the nightlife industry from across India encompassing business and informational workshops.
