SuperStar Libra to triple homeports from September: Star Cruises

Star Cruises has announced SuperStar Libra’s latest deployment from September 3, 2017, onwards with triple homeports in Kuala Lumpur via Port Klang and Penang in Malaysia, as well as in Phuket, Thailand, with two cruises per week, including the 3-nights Kuala Lumpur (via Port Klang)/Phuket/Penang cruise or the four-nights Kuala Lumpur (via Port Klang)/Langkawi/Phuket/Penang cruise. With the introduction of Star Cruises’ multiple homeports and fly-cruise options, guests in Southeast Asia as well as the region will now have easy access to take a cruise with SuperStar Libra from any of these three well-connected key cities, especially Kuala Lumpur, which is now a major aviation hub in Asia. Alibaba Group and Marriott International enter into a joint venture

Alibaba Group and Marriott International have announced the establishment of a joint venture to redefine the travel experience for the hundreds of millions of Chinese consumers travelling abroad and domestically every year. Drawing on resources from both Marriott and Alibaba, the joint venture will manage Marriott’s storefront on Fliggy, Alibaba’s travel service platform. It will also market directly to Alibaba’s customer base, provide a link between Marriott’s loyalty programmes and Alibaba’s loyalty programme, and support Marriott hotels globally with content, programmes and promotions customised for the Chinese traveller. This new venture is designed to satisfy consumers’ expectations for seamless, integrated, personalised, and convenient travel solutions that connect travellers directly to Marriott’s portfolio of international hotel brands. The travel industry is an important growth opportunity as China’s travellers are expected to take an estimated 700 million trips over the next five years. HeliTaxi service from city to Bengaluru airport soon

Bengaluru will become the first city in the country to have a helicopter shuttle service by November 2017. The Heli Taxi services will become operational between the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) and Electronics City. Ministry of State for Civil Aviation Jayant Sinha, who announced the launch, said that the service will ensure quick seamless transfers to and from the airport at a cost similar to a luxury taxi fare. The fare of luxury taxis, which ply on this route (KIA and Electronics City), is between Rs 2,500 and Rs 3,000. Thumby Aviation Private Ltd has been roped in to offer the shuttle services. To begin with, the services will be from KIA to Electronics City and subsequently will be extended to White Field and HAL airport. The services are expected to begin in about three months as Thumby Aviation is in the process of seeking regulatory approvals. Thumby Aviation has two Bell 412 helicopters that can ferry 13 passengers and Bell 407 choppers that can carry five passengers.   Source: IANS

Hyderabad Airport introduces India’s first express security check facility

GMR Hyderabad International Airport Ltd (GHIAL), which operates Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA), Hyderabad, has announced that under the umbrella of GHIAL’s signature programme ‘Passenger is Prime’, and in collaboration with CISF, it has become the first airport in India to provide pre-embarkation security check right at the terminal’s entry gate. This will serve as ‘Express Security Check’ facility for domestic passengers travelling without any check-in baggage. Hyderabad Airport has earmarked a dedicated space at terminal entry point of departure level for the new ‘Express Security Check’ facility. The domestic passengers, after printing their boarding pass from the newly installed ‘self-service kiosks’ located conveniently at the departures forecourt area outside the terminal building, can now enter the Express Security Check lane without getting into the check-in area and head straight towards the boarding area. Currently, Hyderabad Airport handles more than 18,000 domestic departure passengers on daily basis, of which close to 40 per cent travel without any checked-in baggage, and carry at most only hand baggage. Passengers, particularly frequent flyers such as Government officials, business and corporate travellers will immensely benefit from the Express Security Check facility, as this will save their precious time before boarding the aircraft. The new process will also benefit the airlines by reducing the queues at the check-in counters and improving their on-time performance (OTP). Further, the facility will also help in reducing the anxiety levels of passengers travelling through a busy airport.
